Kathy Marie Redday, age 73, of Sisseton, South Dakota passed away on September 10, 2026 at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Celebration of Life Services will be on Saturday, September, 26, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center at Old Agency, SD, with Pastor Milton “Nippy” Owen and Morgan Redday Sr. officiating. Pianist will by Billy Kohl. Burial will be at the Sisseton Cemetery where she will be buried with her daughter Allison.

Kathy Marie Redday was born on May 28, 1953 in Sisseton, SD to Leon and Gladys [Cleveland] Backman. She was Baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton. Kathy graduated from Sisseton High School in 1972. She was an avid reader and belonged to a reading club and loved to bowl at the local bowling alley. On April 19, 1973 her daughter Allison was born. Kathy was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church until its closing. She then joined the Bible Fellowship Community Church in Peever, South Dakota. On April 16, 1976 she married Howard Redday and was blessed with three more children; John, Bernadette and Rhonda. On July 7, 1976 Joshua was born and on July 7, 1977 Skyman was born. Kathy belonged to a women's bible study, a knitting group and loved playing BINGO. She did a lot of embroidery, even embroidering baby blankets and helped make quilts with her mom for family, friends and missions. She had a very boisterous laugh and you’d have to just laugh along with her. She loved to sit and have a good chat. Her and Mark would drive around the countryside and find new and different places to visit and eat. Kathy attended the Sisseton Wahpeton College and received an Associates Degree in Business She was in the first graduating class at the college. Kathy began dispatching for the Sisseton City Police in 1972, later served as a Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Dispatcher, and finished her career with the Roberts County Sheriff’s Office where she served from 2006 until her retirement.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children; Joshua Redday, Sisseton, SD; Skyman Redday, Agency Village, SD; Howard Redday III, Peever Flats, SD; Bernie [Bobby] Kohl, Peever, SD and Rhonda [Brent] Siebenaler, Knapp, WI. She has 28 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. Brother; Leon Backman, Jr, Beardsley, MN. Sisters; Carolyn [Jim] Senske, Watertown, SD; Kim [John] Cozad, Wentworth, SD; Carrie Perko, Wilmot, SD. Sister-in-law; Renee Backman, Lake Preston, SD and special friend Mark Ellsworth.

 Kathy is preceded in death by her parents Leon and Gladys Backman; her daughter Allison Redday; Daughter-in-law Leah Campbell; Grandchildren Skyman James Redday, Jr., Skylynn Josephine Redday; Leeandra Marie Redday, and Lee Michael Redday; brothers Tim Backman and Bryan Backman; sister-in-law Julie Backman; and nephew Lee Backman.
