Obituary

Funeral Service for Winton Merle Martenson, 83, of Eagan, MN will be held on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Organist will be Estelle Pearson and soloist will be Amy Frauenberg. Pallbearers will be Grandsons, Tim Guy, Bernie Dahlin, Derek Ostby, Dillon Ostby, Marten Kuebler and Mike Mramor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Winton's Granddaughters, Tina Guy, Melissa Peters, Isabella Kuebler and Kris Thomas. Interment will be Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD, with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Sunday, May 29, 2011 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM, and one hour prior to the Funeral Services at the Church on Monday. Winton Merle Martenson was born on August 7, 1927 in Sisseton, SD to Roland and Mildred (Eldstrom) Martenson. Winton attended school at Sisseton and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1946. Following his education, Winton entered the United States Army and served from October 1, 1946 to January 27, 1948, serving fourteen months in Japan. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal-Japan. Winton was united in marriage to Delores Kuehn on September 25, 1948 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Webster, SD. They made their home in Sisseton and Winton worked at Landsberger Creamery and Schiltz Food as a Butter Maker until 1986, when they moved to the Minneapolis Area. In Minneapolis he worked as a custodian at Transfiguration Church and School until he retired. Winton was a member of the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and a life member of Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342, where he held the positions of Post Commander, District Commander and different appointed State Chairman positions. Winton enjoyed golfing, bowling, senior citizens, calling bingo and playing pool. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Church, in Apple Valley, MN. Winton passed away on May 25, 2011 at the United Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Winton is survived by four daughters, June and husband, Dan Mramor of Minneapolis, MN, Judy and husband, Elden Guy of Anoka, MN, Joanne and husband, Howard Kuebler of Eagan, MN and Janet and husband, Randy Ostby of New Effington, SD; two brothers, Dale and wife, Donna Martenson of Lakeville, MN and Gary Martenson of Sisseton, SD; one sister, Virjean and husband, Merle Delfosse of Marion, NC; ten grandchildren, Tim and wife, Julie Guy, Tina Guy, Bernie and wife Adina Dahlin, Melissa and husband, Steve Peters, Marty and Bella Kuebler, Derek and Dillon Ostby, Kris Thomas and Mike Mramor ; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Winton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Delores, one sister Doris Johnson and one grandson Brian Dahlin.
