There will be a Graveside Funeral Service for Winifred (Winnie) Schmid of Sisseton, SD on Friday, October 16, 2020 at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Sisseton, SD at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Fr. Gregg Frankman officiating. Pallbearers will be Warren Kulesa, Tom Kulesa, Rydell Nieland, Ron Ceroll Jr., Lyle Michlitsch, and Tim Pederson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her friends and the residents of Edgewood Vista Living Center. Winifred passed on September 29 ^th at the age of 102 years. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be a visitation at the Cahill Funeral Chapel located at 516 East Cherry Street in Sisseton two hours prior to services at the cemetery. Masks and social distancing are recommended . Winifred was born on a farm near Eden, SD on November 13, 1917 the third child of John and Anna (Sigaty) Michlitsch. She attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade. She then helped on the family farm until she met and married Mike Lichtenecker in 1934. They farmed in Enterprise Township and raised a son and daughter there. They loved to dance, winning several contests, enjoyed movies, playing cards with neighbors and attending and helping with school functions. They were active members of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Winifred was active in the Altar Society helping with bazaars and baking and cooking for church functions. Mike passed away in 1970 and Winifred then started working at the local Hospital in the Laundry Department for the next 32 years. Winifred married Gene Schmid in 1975 who unfortunately passed away after one month of marriage. Winifred loved her grandchildren and loved to cook with them especially during the holidays. When they graduated from high school, she treated each grandchild with a trip to Alaska to visit her daughter and son-in-law and to fish for salmon. When Winifred turned 98, she moved to the Edgewood Vista Assisted Living facility where she loved to be involved with all their activities.

Winifred is survived by her daughter Betty Lutje and her husband Bob of Anchorage, AK, and her son Clyde Lichtenecker and his wife Arlene of Rapid City, SD, plus two grandchildren, Kim Lichtenecker, of CA and Nicole (Chad) Vollink of IA, two great grandchildren Addie Ezra, and Kyli Vermeer.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Mike Lichtenecker and Gene Schmid, one grandson Michael Lichtenecker: her parents John and Anna Michlitsch, two sisters Alice Deutsch, Blanche Steiner and three brothers Roman, Gerald and Cornelius Michlitsch, three nephews and two nieces.

Memorial donations can be made in her memory to St. Peters Building Fund or Edgewood Living Center Activities Fund.
