Funeral Mass for William "Billy" Neil Schmaus, 82, long time resident of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek Celebrant. Organist will be Lana Sand and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be William Dinwiddie Jr., Benjamin Dinwiddie, Adam Nelson, David Nelson, Glenda Speiser, and Chance Winkler. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Billy's family and friends. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. followed by visitation at St. Peter's Catholic Church from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 5:00 P.M. Billy was born April 6, 1936, in Sisseton, South Dakota to Edward M Schmaus and Rosalie (George) Schmaus. Billy passed away August 16, 2018 at age of 82 in Independence, Missouri. Billy was married to Ina Tchida for 17 years. Together they had eight children. Billy took great pride in telling everyone about his children. He love to tell the story about his seven daughters and how he finally got "a boy" his son Billy. He considered Ina's son Woody our brother to be like a second son to him and Woody treated our father as if he were his own. Dad shared a close relationship with his mother Rosie who he cared for until her death at the age of 100. He also shared a close relationship with his brothers and sisters. Billy was very outgoing he never met a stranger. He was quick with a smile and a clever rhyme or joke.
Left to mourn are his children, Lori (Dennis) Barry, Glenda (Jack) Speiser, Rhonda Engel, Marcene (William)Dinwiddie, Kim (Doug)Barker, Jackie (Jay)Longknife, Kari (Tony) Gulotta, and William John; Twenty-five grandchildren; Thirty- Seven great grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Marlys) Schmaus; his sisters, Kathy Rice, Carol (Nate) Thorpe, Judy (Gary) Gleason, Marcia Schmaus, and David George.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Rosie Schmaus, his former wife, Ina, his sister Dorothy Thelin, Brothers, Edward, Earl, Richard and Gordon and his son-in-law Del Engel.
