Obituary

Traditional Service for Wilbur "Mickey" George Norris 82, of Agency Village, SD will be Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Danny Seaboy and John Cloud officiating with various singers and drums Michel White and other singers and Lorraine Rouseau Greybuffalo. Military Rites by the United Veterans Association. Burial will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Traditional Burial Grounds, Sisseton, SD. All night wake service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center. Pallbearers will be Edward Koslowski, Richard Bird, Jerry Koslowski, Billy Bird, Darwin James and Lloyd LaBelle Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be "All of Wilbur's Friends and Relatives". Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Wilbur "Mickey" Norris 82 years old was born on the White Earth Reservation on July 4, 1933 to George and Genevieve (Thompson) Norris. Ojibiway Indian names "Gabe Amigiway" man who reached the top of the hill and Sioux name "Wambadi Wicasta" Eagle Man. Wilbur married Patline Bird Norris "Dakota Oyate" of Sisseton, SD on November 11, 1980 in Moose Lake, Minnesota, Yellow Medicine County. He was a Sun dancer for over twenty years. He was a spiritual leader at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud for over twenty years, and at numerous prisons where he would do the sweat lodge ceremonies. He started a treatment center in Brainerd, MN. Wilbur passed away December 3, 2015 at the VA Hospital, Fargo, ND. after three back surgeries that lead to an infection.
Wilbur is survived by his wife, Patline Bird Norris "Oyate" Sisseton SD; two daughters Edith Norris of Red Lake, MN Ojibiway and Alvina Kay Norris of Red Lake, MN Ojibiway; two sons, Tyrone Norris of Cass Lake, MN Ojibiway and Keenan Sayers of Red Lake, MN Ojibiway; his grandsons the Kingbird Singers; his granddaughters Pow-Wow dancers; numerous grandchildren, and all his friends and relatives.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, material grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Thompson; paternal grandparents Frank and Aggie Norris; one son Frank Norris.
