Funeral Service for Wesley Keith "Chaske" Spider, 43 of Watertown, SD will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Jerome Renville, John Cloud III and Kyle Kampeska officiating. Pianist will be Betty Neilan and Drum Group will be Dakota Nation. Pallbearers will be Virton Simon, Spencer LaCroix, Craig Spider, Bruce DeMarrias Jr., Dominik Spider, Terry Spider, Alex Groves. Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Groves, Mike Groves, Shawn Spider, Preston Spider, David Williams, Kyliegh Spider, Jayden Spider, Ivin Hill, Irene Wilson- Langdeaux & Family, Oliver Wanna, Arlene Spider & Family, Donnie Williams, Eddie Blackthunder, Jake Blacksmith, Melanie Finley, Trevor Spider, Josh Redday, David Spider & Family, Skyman Redday, Sam Crawford, Barbara & Joe LaCroix Sr., Floyd Hayes, Russell Barse, Ron & Tammy DuMarce & Family, Iris Keoke & Family. Wake Services will be held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be at the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Wesley Keith "Chaske" Spider was born to LaVonne Spider at PHS Hospital, Sisseton, SD on November 28, 1973. Wes started his schooling at the Big Coulee Early Childhood, then attended Wilmot Public, he also attended school at Pierre for a short while, then came back to live with his Grandma Geraldine and Grandpa Alfred. Then he moved to Watertown and attended Watertown his sophomore year playing football with the Watertown Arrows Team, and he was involved with the FFA. He graduated from Tiospa Zina Tribal School in 1993. Wes worked many years at Schiltz Foods in Sisseton. Wes traveled with his Uncle Maurice and Earl to all the Casinos for enjoyment and seeing his relatives. He also traveled with his Uncle Maurice to the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, with numerous trips to the Fort Thompson area for all his uncles' funerals. He always called his Grandpa Alfred's home, his home, where most recently he stayed with his Auntie Lola and family. Family was important to him, and he loved his Auntie Freda and Craig very much. Wes was a very friendly guy, and he was quiet but his presence and humor always lifted our spirits. He made "bad" times happy times, always making holidays, cook-outs, and birthdays fun. He was never a mean person, and never hurt anyone. He spent a lot of his summers at the family home. Longtime family friend, Donnie Backman would stop and see how things were going and to just sit and visit awhile. He was a big Nebraska Cornhuskers Fan, he loved sports and reading. Wesley passed away on October 3, 2017 in Sisseton, SD.
Wesley is survived by his mother, LaVonne Spider of Watertown, SD; brother, Harley Spider and family of Agency Village, SD sister, Jerlyn Spider of Peever, SD his nephews Dominik and Trevor Spider of Watertown, SD; His Auntie Lola and family of Wilmot, SD uncles, Maurice Spider of Agency Village, SD, Earl Spider of Wilmot, SD; Myron and family of Sisseton, SD, Scott Tohocoka of Sisseton, SD ; many nieces, nephews to which he gave each a nickname. He had favorite nieces, Kyleigh, and Kellie; nephews, Shawn, Preston, Jayden "Curls" Spider and Dominik, Trevor, "Chubs" Terry; and cousins Dusty, Craig and Bruce.
Wesley was preceded in death by grandparents, Alfred and Geraldine Spider, cousin, Missy Spider, Scott Groves and Shawn Johnson; uncle Skip Spider and Auntie Alfreda Spider.
