Obituary

Celebration of Life Service for Wesley M. Hanson, 91 of Sisseton, SD, will be Saturday, August 20, 2016
at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Mark Terayama officiating. Organist will be Ember Dady. Pallbearers will be Buck Hanson, Wesley Hanson, Johnathan Prins, Kenny R. Buck, Shad Carney and Jago Dahl. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Wes' family and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Sisseton, SD from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with family present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with Military Rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3342. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to First Presbyterian Church, Sisseton, SD, Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50, Prairie Lakes Hospice or plant a tree.
Wesley Milton Hanson was born March 31, 1925 on the family farm 1 ½ miles east of Sisseton, SD to John and Emelia (Blomquist) Hanson. He attended grade school and was a 1943 graduate of Sisseton High School. On November 14, 1944, he married Joyce Hanson the love of his life at Webster, SD. In April, 1945, he was drafted into the Army and served overseas until July 13, 1946. In 1949, Wes, Joyce and family moved to the farm at Drywood Lake to raise sheep and cattle. In 2009, he received the Soil Conservation Award for planting and nurturing many acres of trees.
Through the years, Wes was a member of the Drywood Lake Township Board, FHA Advisory Board, Hills and Valley Riding Club, First Presbyterian Church Session, American Legion-serving at various positions including Commander. In 1991, Wes was selected Sisseton High School Alumnus of the Year. Wes passed away on August 16, 2016 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Wes is survived by his wife, Joyce Hanson of Sisseton, SD; five children, Carol (Wayne) Carney of Fort Pierre, SD, Corrine (Bruce) Prins of Sisseton, SD, Karen (Ken) Buck of Peever, SD, Tim (Beverly Noyes) Hanson of Sisseton, SD and Pam (Wes) Dahl of Douglas, WY; fifteen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
Was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, John Wesley and Brian Wesley Hanson; two brothers; David and Robert Hanson; four sisters; Marlys Pettersen, Esther Hansen, Ruth Griffith, and Helen Olsen.
