Obituary

Funeral Service for Wayne "Bud" H. Cooper, 82 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Estelle Pearson and soloist will be Aaron Deutsch. Pallbearers will be Virgil George, Rodney Aas, Rick Oien, Gene Thurston, Marvin Christopherson, and Alan Lekness. Honorary Pallbearers will be all the members of the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion and Fort Sisseton VFW. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD with military rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Monday, August 10, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM Memory Sharing Service with family present. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at the Church on Tuesday. Wayne Hollen Cooper was born on January 19, 1927 in Sisseton, SD to Chester and Alpha (Hollen) Cooper. Following his education he worked on his step-father, Ralph Thurston farm. Wayne served in the United States Army from Sept. 1, 1950 until April 12, 1952. After his discharge he went back to work on the farm, he then went into construction work. In 1953 he worked for the State of South Dakota for two years. Wayne was united in marriage to Vivian Oien on June 23, 1954 at Goodwill Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD. To this union three children were born, Victoria, Gary and Jodi. He then went to work for the City of Sisseton for nine years as the Water Supertendent. He was the manager of the American Legion in Sisseton for a time. Bud was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. In 1966 he and his family moved to Blaine, MN, where he worked for Pioneer Engineering and Barry Blower Co. In August 1971 they moved back to Sisseton and he went to work for Art Sather, retiring in 2003. Bud liked to garden and play cards. Bud passed away suddenly on August 5, 2009 at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center, Sisseton, SD
Bud is survived by three children, Vicky and husband, Bruce Zeretzke of Minot, ND, Jodi and husband, Alan Veflin of Sisseton, SD and Gary and wife, Andrea Cooper of Sisseton, SD; two sisters, Lucille George and Marcella Aas of Sisseton, SD, two brothers, Allen and his wife, Joyce Thurston on Minot, ND and Andrew and wife, Jan Thurston of Minot, ND; ten grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
