Funeral Service for Vivian Opsal, 100, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Vern Donnell officiating. Organist will be Sara Aadland with special music by June Evenson and Kevin Elton. Pallbearers will be Scot Chapman, Craig Hagen, Dean Mollerud, Jeff Krieger, Irv Slaamot, and Ernie Hutchins. There will be visitation at the Family Life Assembly of God Church on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. There will be visitation one hour prior to the funeral on Friday. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD at a later date. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

May "Vivian" Opsal was born on May 30, 1918 in Enchant, Alberta, Canada, to Theodore and Alma (Howg) Mollerud, but she called Sisseton, SD her home for most of her life. Due to her mother's illness the family returned to the U.S. in 1919. She attended school at Little Fork, MN, International Falls, MN, Rhinelander, WI, Hart #2, Sisseton Public School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1937. Following her education she went to Chicago in 1937 and worked for three years. She went to Minneapolis and attended a year at North Central Bible Business College. She worked for three years at the Federal Reserve Bank. She married Leonard Perreault and they moved to Michigan. Two sons were born to this union. She returned to Sisseton with her two sons, David and Michael. She worked for Roberts County National Bank for 12 ½ years and the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 5 years. She was married to Arthur Peterson of Oakes, ND in 1965. They lived in Oakes and Donna, Texas for the next 12 years. Arthur died in 1977. In 1980 she returned to Sisseton. She was married to Maurice Opsal in 1988. Maurice passed away 2006. She stayed quite active, even into her later years. She loved to travel and was able to visit many places. Two of her favorite things to do were embroidering and crocheting. Many newborns were blessed with a hat made by her. She was known to play a good game of aggravation (she never let you break a rule), host a fantastic garbage can dinner and volunteer where needed. Vivian was nominated for the Spirit of South Dakota Award. She was strong- mentally, physically and spiritually all of which were on full display when she beat cancer in her 90s. Her faith and family were at the forefront of her life. She was a devoted Christian, growing in her faith and guiding many others in theirs. She loved so many and is still being a guiding light and angel to all of us today.  Vivian passed away on April 26, 2019 at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton, SD.

Vivian is survived by her son, David (Pam) Perreault of Eden Prairie, MN; one granddaughter, Angie (Kevin) Elton of Hutchinson, MN; one great grandson, Michael Elton of Hutchinson, MN; step children, Cheryl (Jim) Long of New Effington, SD, Barbara (Richard) Gray of Westminster, CO. and, Sharon (Merle) Schmaus of St. Paul, MN; step son-in-law Truman Nelson of Sisseton, SD and step daughter-in-law Judy Opsal of St. Michael's, MN; one niece Mary (Scot) Chapman of Big Lake, MN, and nephews, Chris (Mary) Lenz of Litchfield, MN, Dean (Kathy) Mollerud of Moorhead, MN, and Ted(Georgia) Mollerud of WI, one half sister Peggy Hanzlek, and a special friend Linda Krieger of Sisseton, SD.

Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Leonard Perreault, Art Peterson and Maurice Opsal; son Michael Perreault; brothers, Marvin and Emery Mollerud; one sister Thelma Lenz; three half sisters Marion Ruppert, Doris Scheldorn and Betty Moratz; half brother Don Mollerud; step children, Nova Nelson, Arlyn Opsal and Duane Opsal; and one niece LeRoyce Hagen.

Memorials may be given to Family Life Assembly of God Church building fund.
