Private Family Funeral Mass for Virginia Gruby, 87, of Eden, SD will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with Rev. Fr. Brian Simon celebrant. Public Interment will be in the St. Michaels Cemetery, Eden, SD. Pallbearers will be Harvey Michlitsch, John Brausen, Manuel Almazan, Tom Gruby, Don Gruby, and Len Gruby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Nichole LaPado, Tanya Shafer, Jena Gruby, Courtney Henry, Kyle Kellner, and Brooke Gruby. Private family visitation will be held on Monday, December 7, 2020 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Eden, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements. Masks and social distancing are required.

Virginia Gruby, 87 years old, was born in Webster, South Dakota on August 1, 1933 to August and Clara (Dargatz) Soldatke. Virginia was born and raised in rural Grenville, SD and attended grade school. She married Leonard Gruby June 8, 1954. She loved to dance and her favorite dance style was waltz and polkas. To this day, she loved polka and waltzes and was an avid watcher of the Mollie B. Polka show on TV and on You Tube on Tuesday nights. Virginia also loved to ice fish with her husband Leonard and they had many family and friends that ice fished with them and all were always looking for the "big one". She loved to play cards especially; Whist and loved playing the board game "Wahoo" with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved house plants and crocheting. She was known for crocheting "name" doilies for weddings. She loved football and being in football contests and football pools. Virginia did many 1000-piece puzzles and always had one being worked on.

These past few years she spent lots of time with several dear friends of hers known as the Golden Girls. They were known to go to daily mass, have coffee and senior citizen lunch at Club Eden as well as pray for folks on the Eden Prayer Chain. She was a strong person of faith and the rosary was part of her daily prayer life. She belonged to Sacred Heart Church, Eden, SD and was part of the St. Barbara's Band and also was on the Finance Council for many years. She was an Eden Town Board trustee and also volunteered at the voting polls during election. She passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Aberdeen, SD due to complications from Covid 19.

Virginia is survived by her children: Tom (Christina) Gruby, Leonardtown, MD; Barbara (Harvey) Michlitsch, Spearfish, SD; Carol (John) Brausen, Shakopee, MN; Joyce (Manuel) Almazan, Eagan, MN; Don (Phyllis) Gruby, Maple Grove, MN; Len (Michelle) Gruby, Andover, MN. Grandchildren; Nichole (Kris) LaPado; Tanya (Jeff) Shafer; Kyle (Stephanie) Kellner; Jena Gruby, Courtney (James) Henry and Brooke Gruby. Great grandchildren: Jackson, Hadley, Alex, Owen, Camden, Thomas & Lilly

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband; Leonard, great grandson; Paxton and her brothers and sisters: Paul, Monica, Melvin, Joe, John, Delores and Marie.
