Obituary

Memorial Service for Violet Karst, 95, of Peever, SD will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Kay Reeb officiating. Organist will be Amy Currence. Urn Bearer will be Mark Karst and Honorary Urn Bearers will be Violet's grandchildren. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation at the Cahill Funeral Chapel on Saturday one hour prior to the Memorial Service. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Violet Taylor was born on January 2,1929, at Harrold, SD to Carlos and Minne (Burke) Taylor. She graduated from Madison High School in Madson SD. Afte high school she attended the Cosmetology School in Watertown, SD. She married Francis Karst in 1949 and they made their home in Peever SD. To this marriage six children were born Barb, Michael, Sandy, Vicki, Mark, and Debbie.
Francis and Violet enjoyed many nights square dancing. After Francis died in 1964 Violet worked for the Lowell Lundstrom Ministries. Violet and her good friend, Faye Horner, ran the Peever Liquor Store for a short spell. She also worked for a few years at the Peever Post Office. She was a cook at the Peever School before moving to Aberdeen, SD. While in Aberdeen, SD Violet cooked at Mother Joseph's Manor until she retired.
Violet enjoyed her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her retirement years she made quilts for all her grandchildren. To her great grandchildren she was known as "Grandma Dolly" as Violet collected dolls and had them on display in her home. Violet embroidered baby blankets for all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed making picture albums for weddings and other occasions. When the mood struck her, she would play piano for her own enjoyment. Violet loved to bake birthday cakes for grandkids, Christmas cookies, cinnamon rolls, and pies, she was always looking to try new recipes. Violet was always ready to have a good time playing cards.  When her sisters visited a bridge game would always be going on. Violet passed away on June 25, 2024, at Edgewood Living Center, Sisseton, SD.

Violet is survived by her children, Mark (Jean) Karst of Browns Valley, MN, Barbara (Gary) Aadland of Aberdeen, SD, Vicki Kienow of Aberdeen, SD, and Debbie (Floyd) Hart of Sisseton SD; ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; son-in-law Dennis Foell of Pierre, SD.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Minnie (Burke) Taylor; her husband, Francis Karst; one daughter Sandra Foell and one son Michael; one grandson Kelly Hart and one granddaughter Heather Rohr; one brother Arthur Taylor; and five sisters, Florence Taylor, Morene Seeley, Fairola Horton, Charrold Marshall and her twin sister Viola Feistner.
