Funeral Service for Violet "Jennie" Fleury, "Wasté Win" Good Women,75, of Wilmot, SD will be held on Friday, April 17. 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. A meal will be served at 11:00 A.M. Officiating will be Mikey Peters, Misuŋ Bowker, and Thomas LaBlanc. Drum Group will be All Singers. Pall Bearers will be Peyton Abraham, Tokala Squirrel Coat, Jamison Pratt, Elijah BlackThunder Sr., Elijah BlackThunder Jr., Melvin Waupoose, Osisica BlackThunder, Brian Eder, Everett BlackThunder Jr., Stuart Chaske Ironeyes, Wakan Waci Blindman, Charlie Poitra, Kardsten Squirrel Coat, Eric Shepherd, and Hazen Thompson-Lamere. There will be a Wake Service on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at St. Kateria Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, SD at 7:00 P.M. There will be an All-night Wake Service on Thursday, April 16, 2026, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village. Interment will be at the Sisseton Wahpeton Nation Traditional Burial Ground, Sisseton, South Dakota. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD are in charge of funeral arrangements.

Violet Jennie Fleury was born on June 23, 1950 in Sisseton, SD to Clifford and Violet (Shepherd) Thompson Sr. She attended school in Browns Valley, MN and graduated from Stephan Mission School. She then went on to college at Haskell Indian Nations University, Lawrence, KS, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1970. Jennie then went to Phoenix, AZ to complete her Nursing Internship. She married DeWayne Fleury and they moved to Browns Valley, MN after he was discharged from the Military. She later moved to Wilmot, SD. She worked at the Wilmot Care Center as a nurse and Wilmot Public School as a JOM teacher Aide and JOM board member. She was a board member of the TZ School. Jennie was a Big Coulee Councilwoman from 1980-1983 and part of the Dakota Dance Clan. She was a lifelong supporter of Buffalo Lake Sundance and Hehaka Wicahpi Wi Wang Waci.

Jennie enjoyed driving to visit her sisters when she was able. She liked reading Danielle Steele books, doing crossword puzzles and word finds, watching her favorite TV shows and military movies. She attended all her Takoja's school activities, scrolling Facebook, and kept up to date on the news and politics. She enjoyed talking with the Dialysis nurses and her dialysis drivers Damian and Cheryl. She was a collector of keepsakes items her "Goodies" and playing card and board games with Tel and Estelle. She liked to go rummaging and thrifting, quilt tying, making shawls and praying and supporting relatives. She liked to cheer on the Minnesota Vikings, Kansas Jayhawks, South Carolina Gamecocks – Dawn Staley and the Tennessee Lady Vols – Pat Summit. Jennie passed away on April 13, 2026 in Sioux Falls, SD.

Jennie is survived by her children Susan (Del) Redday, Kardsten Squirrel Coat, Jessica Squirrel Coat, and Angeline Squirrel Coat; Hunka Daughter Christina Christenson and Dacia Dauphinais; grandchildren Jacob, Jordyn, Violet Lablanc, Jae Vigil, Stuart Chaske Ironeyes Goggles, Wambdi Wi and Nathan Badonie, Nicole and Jamison Pratt, Peyton Abraham, Maili Marks, McKenzie, Serenity, Tokala, and Estelle Squirrel Coat, Wakiyela Squirrel Coat-Meyers, Lucresia, Talula, and Kelby Enjady- Virgil, Memoree, Elijah Jr., Yossiana, Wiyakpa, Ohitika, Wicahpi, Storm, and Wihamna Blackthunder, Michael Keoke, Jerome Jr. and Jessenya Lester, Daniellla Thompson-LaMere, Alissa Fryer, Kiki, Ezekiel, Ethen, Mozis, and Talia Thompson; great-grandchildren Tel Iverson, Pike Poitra, and Jackson Gill;  brothers Jacob "Jake" Thompson and Nathan Thompson; sisters Susan Thompson-James and Billie Guerrero; nephews Thomas "Sonny" Lablanc, Elijah Blackthunder Sr., Everett Blackthunder Jr., Hazen Thompson-Lamere, Ambrose, Sheldon, and Edwin Thompson, Wakaŋ waci Blindman; and Wakiŋyan Ho waste Blindman; nieces Blossom Blackthunder, Carleen and Charlene Vigil, Becca Rae, Gina and Tina Motah, and April Thompson; cousins Shepherd, Wanna, Thompson, and Ortley Tiwahe.

She was preceded in death by her husband DeWayne Fleury; grandchildren Danelle Marshall and Waniyetu Squirrel Coat; parents Clifford and Violet (Shepherd) Thompson;  maternal grandparents Ester Harriet Ortley and Hazen Preston Shepherd; paternal grandparents Susan DeMarrias and Edward Thompson; brothers Milton "Ed" RedOwl, Eddie Dean Thompson, and Clifford Thompson Jr.; sisters Colleen Thompson-Vigil and Catherine Thompson; nephew Sheridan Vigil and niece Rondeena Smith.
