Funeral Service for Violet Mabel Renville-Barse, Wahca-Win (Flower girl), 93 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 2:00 PM at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Agency Village, SD with the Rev. Conrad Cecil, Senior Catechist John Cloud III and Episcopal Lay Readers Officiating. Billy Kohl will be the pianist and special music will be provided by Dennis Erickson, Cynthia LaBatte, Butch Felix, Tracy Barse and Iahna Jamison. Pallbearers will be Les Barse Jr., Stan Barse, Jr., Carson LaBatte, Gabe Barse, Cameron Bird, Troy Barse, Steven Barse, Jack Barse, Brandon Barse, Jeremy Barse, Phillip Barse, Ernest Barse Jr,. and Michael Rousseau Jr., Honorary Pallbearers will be Caroline Renville, Melvina LaBatte, Alma Wanna, Lori Neilan, Eunice Renville, Janice LaBatte, Leona Rockensock, Yvonne Wiley, Lillian Owen, Michelle Farmer, Connie Brown, Elvira Enoch, Yvonne Williams, and Mabel Amos. Interment will be St. Mary's Cemetery, Agency Village, SD. There will be Wake Services at the Tribal Community Center, on Monday and an all night wake on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Violet Mabel Renville was born on November 24, 1918 in Sisseton, SD to David and Grace (Robertson) Renville. She grew up and attended school in Pipestone, MN. Violet was united in marriage to Frank Barse Sr. at Wheaton, MN in 1955. Violet worked at the west side and middle school in Sisseton as a teacher's aid. During the summer she attended college in Vermillion, SD. She also worked at the Wahpeton Indian School for ten years as a night matron. Violet served on the SWSO Election Board and other boards for a number of years. She also worked for the Green Thumb Program and as a receptionest at the BIA. She liked to play bingo, was a Minnesota Viking and Twins fan, and play penny-annie. She liked to tell stories and enjoyed family reunions. She enjoyed watching her family play softball. Violet passed away on June 17, 2012 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Violet is survived by twelve children, Orville and Cynthia LaBatte of Waubay, SD, Leslie and Kathy Barse Sr. of Peever, SD, Randy Barse of Peever, SD, Brenda Solberg of Sisseton, SD, Frank Barse Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Stanley and Sherry Barse Sr. of Summit, SD, Peggy and Darrell DeCoteau of Flandreau, SD, Faith and Dennis Erickson of Sioux Falls, SD, Russell Barse of Peever, SD, Anita Barse of Flandreau, SD, David and Elizabeth Barse of Agency Village, SD, and Donna Barse of Flandreau, SD; one sister, Louise Jones of Sisseton, SD and two brothers, Harvey and Mona Renville, and Jerry and Joann Renville of Sisseton, SD; fifty grandchildren; one hundred thirty two great grandchildren and twenty great-great grandchildren and four step children, Veronica Ojeda of Agency Village, SD, Ernest and Ness Barse Sr. of Watertown, SD, Eleanor Kirk of Agency Village, SD and Connie and Dean Abraham of Sisseton, SD.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Ronald, one daughter, Frances, three grandsons, David, Darren and Orville Jr., and two infant grandsons; one granddaughter, Loni; one great grandson Jalen; one brother, Clifford; five sisters, Marceline, Augusta, Ellrine, Rachel and Juanita.
