Viola Hazel Lotz was born in Roberts County, SD to William and Hazel (Tostenson) Lotz on November 26, 1937. She was united in marriage to Virgil Hanson in Sisseton, SD on June 1, 1956. They were blessed with two daughters, Laura and Lisa, and were married for 41 years before divorcing in 1997. Viola was a stay-at-home mom for most of the years her girls were growing up, but before children she ran a breakfast/lunch counter in front of a gas station in Custer, SD. Later in Montana, she worked several years at the Belt Valley Grocery. In 1994 she moved back to Sisseton and has worked several places including, Super Valu, Pearson Drug, Chris' Bakery, Stavig's Hardware, A & C Variety, and the CAP Office/Grow South Dakota.

Her hobbies included cross stitch, watercolor painting, putting puzzles together, collecting and repairing dolls, baking bread, writing funny letters to family using words or pictures clipped out of newspapers, and playing the accordion. Mostly she had an avid love for Jesus, so bible study, and Christian books and music filled much of her day. Her love for Jesus definitely reflected in her daily interactions with others. Viola was a very kind and generous woman.

Viola is survived by her two daughters, Laura and Mike Beale of Kalispell, MT, and Lisa Anderson of Tulsa, OK, a brother Herbert and Bonnie Lotz of Pierre, SD, and a sister Carole Quinn of Sisseton, SD, a sister-in-law Sharon Lotz of Blaine, MN, an aunt Ruth Christensen of Watertown, SD, and many nieces, and nephews.

Viola is preceded in death by her parents William and Hazel Lotz; brothers, Oliver and Wayne Lotz and his wife Judy, sisters, Doris Hormann and her husband Daryl and Marion Lotz.
