Veronica (Lentsch) Novstrup was born on July 28, 1927 on a ranch near Red Iron Lake, Lake City, South Dakota to Frank and Susan (Weyer)Lentsch. Veronica was known to friends and family as Verony, pronounced "Froney". When she was about five years old the family moved to a ranch five miles west of Sisseton, South Dakota. She attended a one room school house in Drywood Township as well as the Catholic School in Sisseton. While living on her parent's ranch,Veronica met the love of her life, Howard, the son of Jake and Anna Novstrup, who lived on a ranch immediately to the west. Howard often
claimed to have first met Veronica while she was trapping muskrats.
She was married to Howard on July 1, 1950. Together Howard and
Veronica actively worked a farm and ranch operation in the Sisseton area until the early 1990s when they retired. Veronica lived nearly her entire life within 20 miles of her birthplace. She was a long-time
member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Veronica loved cooking, baking bread, and making jelly for her family and friends. She rarely allowed a guest to leave the farm without some sort of baked goods, strawberries, or jelly. She was also a gifted gardener. Many of the iris, peony, phlox and strawberry beds in the Sisseton area were enriched using starts from Veronica's garden.
She freely shared these with anyone willing to take them. Veronica delighted in spending time with family and friends especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Veronica had a gift for caring for others. Her dedication and capacity to love was best evidenced in the twenty years she spent caring for her precious daughter Kathleen
until Kathy's passing in 1979.
Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Susan
Lentsch; her husband Howard; daughter Kathleen; two sisters, Marie Argo, and Rosiena Stewart; and brother, George Lentsch.
