Funeral Service for Verna M. (Rouillard) Sargeant, Anpetu Yuwaste Wicakiye Win, "Woman that makes the day good for everyone," 80, of Waubay, SD will be held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at St. James' Episcopal Church, Enemy Swim, SD with Final View taking place at 9:00 A.M. at Enemy Swim Community Center. Rev. Fr. Charles Chan, Fr. Conrad Ciesel, Fr. George Parmeter, and Deacon Bitsey Ciesel will be officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohland Drum Group will be Old Agency Drum Group. Pallbearers will be Justin Kongi, Leo Lowe, Chris Rouillard, Steve Kongi, Jr., Clement White, Quentin Owen, Josh Keeble, and Jasiah RedBear. Honorary Pallbearers will be Evie Eagle, Marlene White, William Kampeska, Destry Campbell, Leslie Sullivan, Jeremiah Little Bird, Marcella Eagle, Vernon Rouillard Sr., Edwina Bernard, Philomene Johnson, Joann Gill, Rose Seaboy Chase, Valdeen Campbell, Christine White, Mary Keeble, Laura Rouillard, Martin Bernard, and Randy Bernard. Interment will be in the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim, SD. There will be all night wake services on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 and July 4, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. Verna passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Webster, SD.
Verna was born on February 12, 1939 to Wilfred and Virginia (Bernard) Rouillard in Sisseton, SD. She attended school at the Alto County School and Enemy Swim Day School. She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church and ECW-St. Andrew Associates. She worked at Helgrens Farms in Dilworth, MN, a mink farm in Waubay, and then she worked at the Elderly complex in Crawfordsville as a cook, and also was a nanny throughout her life. She was well known for her fry bread, and loved to play cards, bingo, jigsaw puzzles, and collecting many owls. Verna was a foster mother to Katrina and Delphine and helped raise her nieces and nephews Merle, Wesley, Elvis, and Donnette.
Verna is survived by her son John Sargeant and his children Nathan, Nolan, Josephina, and Julian of Sisseton; numerous other grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Verna is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Clifford Robertson, and Lincoln Rouillard; sisters Charlotte Davies, Irene Rouillard, Maxine White, and Christine Rouillard; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
