Funeral Mass for Verlyn Lee Steiner, 52 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, O.M.I. Celebrant. Organist will be Collette Hull and song leader will be Georgia Streier. Pallbearers will be Brian and Tim Leverson, Dale Rinas, Randy Arbach, Rydell Nieland, and Alan Veflin. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Verlyn's Friends & Neighbors. There will be military rites by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be visitation on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with a 7:00 PM scripture service. There will be visitation on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 one hour prior to services at the Church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Verlyn Lee Steiner was born on May 12, 1956 in Sisseton, SD to Vernon and Erla (Iverson) Steiner. He attended Sisseton School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1974. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army and served from July 25, 1974 to July 15, 1976. He received the National Defense Service Medal. After returning from the Service, Verlyn attended Lake Area Technical School in Watertown, SD for diesel mechanic. He returned to Sisseton, SD to farm with his father, and was farming at the time of his death. He also worked as a meat cutter in Oakes, ND; Milbank, Rosholt and was a previous co-owner of Horton Meat Processing in Sisseton, SD. He enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle, gardening, the computer, hunting, archery and traveling. The last two winters he vacationed in Vietnam. Verlyn was a member of Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD. Verlyn passed away at his home on December 18, 2008.
Verlyn is survived by his mother, Erla Steiner of Sisseton, SD; three sisters, Joyce (Wayne) Deutsch of Sisseton, SD, Lois (Jerry) Keintz of Parker, CO, and Donna ( Bill) Jackson of Goose Creek, SC; two nieces, five nephews, two great nieces and two great nephews.
Verlyn was preceded in death by his father, Vernon, one brother, Keith and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
