Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian, SD.

Funeral Service for Verlin Warren Hosmer, 81 of Sisseton, SD will be held on January 6, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, South Dakota. Officiating will be Vicar Pat Schubert. Organist will be Steven Eneboe. Special music by Annabelle Hosmer and Kari (Ballata) Hosmer. Pallbearers will be Christopher Hosmer, Grant Hosmer, Greg Hosmer, Ree Groos, Adam Groos, Kerry Cameron, Bobby Horton and Matt Eich. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Meland and All of Verlin's grandchildren, Brynna Hosmer, Annabelle Hosmer, Willow Hosmer, Eli Hosmer, Abby Groos, and Heather Hosmer. There will be a Visitation Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 3:00 P.M. till 6:00 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 5:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the Church. Interment will be in the spring at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Verlin was born on March 4th, 1940 in Fedora, SD to Warren and Lois (Wise) Hosmer. Verlin attended high school in Artesian, SD, graduating in 1958. Verlin went on to receive his undergraduate and Master's Degree in Education from Northern State University. Verlin married Carol Ann Eleeson in Pierre, SD on December 21st, 1965. Verlin and Carol Ann were life-long educators, beginning their careers at Ft. Thompson, SD and then on the Red Scaffold and Eagle Butte Indian Reservations before moving to Florida on the Big Cypress Indian Reservation at the Ahfachkee Day School. Verlin worked for the then Bureau of Indian Affairs and moved his family to Shiprock, NM where he served as the principal for the Navajo Indian Reservation school district. Verlin and his family moved to Sisseton in 1983 where he was hired as the middle school principal, eventually becoming the district's Superintendent of Schools. Verlin retired from education in 2004. Verlin and Carol Ann attended the Chrisitian Missionary Alliance Church and Grace Lutheran Church. Verlin was active in a number of civic organizations in Sisseton and was an instrumental member of the committee that successfully raised funds for the new athletic complex in Sisseton. Verlin was also a Freemason, achieving the rank of 3rd Degree Master in his 45 years of service. Verlin dedicated his life to education, his wife of 55 years, his children, his four sisters, and his many pets. Known as Bapa to his 6 grandkids, he enjoyed spending his free time traveling to see them, having coffee with his friends, and keeping up with the news. He was an amazing father and his kids think back fondly knowing that he would take every phone call made by them, no matter how inconvenient at the time. We knew that we were the most important thing in his life. He is so very loved and we will miss him every day. Verlin was a man of humor, high integrity, graceful diplomacy, and a disappointed Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. He was always proud to be a Sisseton Redman and cared for every student and their families that he served. Verlin passed away on December 31, 2021 at the Mankato Mayo hospital surrounded by the caring staff and his children.

Verlin is survived his four children, Christopher (Jenny) Hosmer of Volga, SD, Ree (Adam) Groos of Lake Crystal, MN, Grant Hosmer of Lino Lakes, MN and Gregory Hosmer of Glasgow, MO; four sisters, Betty Thompson of Madison, SD, Ardith Scott of Brandon, SD, Shirley Heath of Sioux City, IA and Sid Tompkins of Huron, SD; six grandchildren, Brynna Hosmer, Annabelle Hosmer, Willow Hosmer, Eli Hosmer, Abby Groos, and Heather Hosmer; and sister-in-law Debbra (Calvin) Eich of Eagan, MN.

Verlin was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carol Ann.
