Obituary

Funeral Mass for Valentina Monica Janisch, 86, of Eden, SD will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD with Fr. Tom Cool, Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Charles Rumpza, Leonard L. Rumpza, Duane Michlitsch, James Michlitsch, Eugene Janisch, and Greg Janisch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Val's Grandchildren and Great Grandson, Jody Block, Carrie Block, Craig Block, Matthew Hansen, Sarah Hansen, Ashley Hansen and Nicholas Bergseth. Organist will be Jane Johnson, and soloist will be Anne Nordquist with music by the Sacred Heart choir. Interment will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Eden, SD. There will be visitation on Thursday, May 28, 2009 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel, and 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Rosary and Scripture Service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eden, SD. There will be visitation one hour prior to services at the Church on Friday. Valentina Monica Rumpza was born on March 3, 1923 on a farm in Grenville Township to Leo and Anastasia (Kwasniewski) Rumpza. She attended country school in Rarian Township for seven years, prior to her family moving to her uncle's farm (Albert Kwasniewski) where she completed her 8th grade education at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Grenville, SD. Val contributed to her parent's farm until her marriage to Norbert Janisch of Eden, SD on June 15, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Grenville, SD. Norbert and Val farmed south of Lake City, SD until their retirement. In November 1993, they moved to the family (Tscherne) home in Eden, SD. Norbert passed away in January 1997. Val was a member of several organizations including St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Alter Society, Lake City, SD; Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Alter Society, Eden, SD; lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #3507, Britton, SD, and widow's club of Eden. Her hobbies and enjoyment included quilt-making, crocheting, crafts, and playing cards. Valentina passed away on May 23, 2009 at Marshall County Health Care Center, Britton, SD.
Valentina is survived by two daughters, Elaine (Jim) Block of Milbank, SD and Linda Hansen of Sedalia, CO; six grandchildren, Jody Block of Centennial, CO, Carrie Block of Sioux Falls, SD, Craig Block of Eden, SD, Matthew Hansen of Lone Tree, CO, Sarah Hansen of Littleton, CO, and Ashley Hansen of Sedalia, CO; one great grandson, Nicholas Bergseth of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Dorothy Hamman of Belt, MT; many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Valentina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norbert Janisch, her brothers, Stanley, Leonard, and Joseph and one sister Leona.
