Funeral Service for Tressa Schmidt, 67 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor LeRoy Boender officiating. Organist will be Estelle Pearson and soloist will be Pat Schubert .   Pallbearers will be Neil Nelson, Mark Peterson, Joel Odland, Cory Grimsrud, Cal Schubert and Tommy Hamm.  Visitation will be on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Cahill Funeral Chapel from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.  Interment will be in the Clinton City Cemetery, Clinton, MN.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton SD is in charge of Funeral arrangements.

Tressa Anne Schmidt was born on January 29, 1950 in Watertown, SD to Herman and Della (Ludwig) Schmidt.  She grew up in Clinton, MN and graduated from Clinton High School in 1968.  She was active in the band, serving as a percussionist, bass drum and tympani.  She attended Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1972 with a degree in Library Science.  Her first school experience was at Fairview, MT.  She then experienced the pull to undertake a mission school experience in Papua New Guinea where she served for three years.

She returned to the United States in December 1976 and began her career with the Sisseton School District.  During the summer breaks Tressa continued her education, obtaining a Master's degree.  While with the Sisseton School District, she was an advisor to several groups of cheerleaders.  She served as Grand Marshall of the Sisseton High School Homecoming parade in 2011.  She was active in the South Dakota Education Association locally and at the state level.

On March 9, 2015, Tressa reaffirmed at Grace Lutheran, the covenant God made with her in Holy Baptism in the presence of witnesses who had and continued to support her in her faith journey.

She was deeply involved with the choir at Grace Lutheran, rarely missing a rehearsal or performance.  Tressa was involved with the quilters at Grace Lutheran, her Circle, Bible study group.  She was known to knit stocking caps for students and friends.

Tressa is survived by her brother, Donald (Susan) Schmidt, Fargo, ND, nephew Darren, Fargo, ND, niece Sara (Adam) Cahlin, Bismarck, ND.

Tressa was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Della Schmidt, a stillborn brother, and her grandparents.
