Funeral Services for Thelma Lucille Jordan, 90 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. William Schruba officiating. The organist will be Estelle Pearson and the soloist will be Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be Richard Weiber Palmer Eidet Jr., Dale Ostby, David Navratil, Randy Ostby, and Tim Navratil. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Thelma's Family and Friends. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Thelma was born on May 6, 1919, the daughter of William and Ethel (Hunter) Jordan on a farm west of Peever, SD. She was the fourth of thirteen siblings. Thelma was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church. She went to country school through the eighth grade. Which in those days was a mile, sometimes more both ways. Thelma worked at home helping her mother with the children and house work, which consisted of washing clothes on the board, carrying water in and out in those days. In her later teen years she worked in Minneapolis as a nanny and then Rapid City as a waitress, and then back to country living until 1978 when she moved into Sisseton, where she did baby setting, worked at Landsbergers, the Senior Citizen Center for eighteen years, and did volunteer work. Thelma entered the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in October 2005. Thelma liked all animals, cats were her favorite. She was great at raising chickens, gathering eggs, and milking cows wasn't her fondest chore. Thelma enjoyed reading and she loved her siblings dearly.
Thelma is survived by two brothers, William and his wife, Delores Jordan of New Effington, SD and Robert Jordan of New Effington, SD; two sisters, Mrs. Luella Franklin of Browns Valley, MN and Mrs. Deloris Schneider of Sisseton, SD; and one brother-in-law Delbert Nelson of Breckenridge, MN and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Arnold and Milton; six sisters, Stella, Evelyn, Ruth, Ordella, Darlene and Adeline.
