Obituary

Funeral Mass for Teresa Marria Hippen, 97 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Norman Volk, O.M.I. celebrant. Organist will be Cindi Marohl and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be Ed Lamers, Jack Lamers, Matt Lenssen, Boyd Hanson, Mort and Dean Lehrke. Honorary Pallbearers will be All of Teresa's Family & Friends. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Cahill Funeral Chapel from 2:00 PM to 7:00 P.M. and one hour before Funeral Mass at the church on Wednesday.
Teresa Marria Lenssen was born on April 22, 1914 to Henry and Emma (Fonder) Lenssen on a farm near Veblen, SD. The family moved to a farm near Peever where she attended rural school and graduated from Peever High School in 1933. After High School, Teresa lived in St. Paul, MN and took a business course. Teresa was united in marriage to Bill Hippen on July 18, 1940. They moved to Wilmot and lived until 1955 when they moved to Sisseton. Teresa worked in Sisseton for Fr. Pohlen at the Tekakwitha Orphanage, at Landsberger Creamery from 1955 to 1970, and she managed at the Thompson Hotel in Sisseton until 1970. Bill passed away in April of 1970. Teresa was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and St. Peter's Alter Society. Teresa passed away on September 24, 2011 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Teresa is survived by two sons, David (Sue) Hippen of Mesa, AZ and Stan (Yvonne) Hippen of Sisseton, SD; and her grandchildren, Collin of Sisseton, SD, Bill, Rowdy, Ranada, Collette, and Lynette of CA, and David, Roger, and Bill all of AZ; many great-grandchildren; her sisters, Leona Stabler and Viola Shoe of California, her sister-in-law, Carol Lenssen of Browns Valley, MN; daughter-in-law Elaine Hippen of Phoenix, AZ; and many nephews, and nieces.
Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, her daughter Anita, eight brothers and sisters, and her grandson Tyson.
