Shirley Dean Spradlin was born on July 3, 1935 in Okolona, Arkansas to Allen and Florence (Rowe) Spradlin. Shirley graduated in 1953 from Hooks High School, Hooks, Texas. Shirley married the love of her life Mike on November 28, 1954 at Red River Arsenal in Hook, Texas. She became an Army wife and traveled to many bases and was blessed with 5 Army brats (all born in Army Hospitals in 5 different states). Shirley worked at Tekakwitha Nursing Home for 29 years as a cook. Shirley was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and Alter Society, Fort Sisseton VFW Auxiliary #3342 and Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Auxiliary #50. Shirley loved to sew and she made her family many quilts, lap robes for our veterans, baptism bibs for St. Peter's Church, book bags for Head Start but was best known for her alterations for many Sisseton residents. If she wasn't sewing you could find her in the flower garden or making her famous apple pies, donuts and jelly or fishing on Buffalo Lake catching more fish than Mike. Shirley was very dedicated to her loving husband of 68 years and had a strong love for our country. Shirley was a resident of the Browns Valley Health Care Center, Browns Valley, MN. Shirley passed away on April 28, 2023 at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital, Sisseton SD.

Shirley is survived by her husband of 68 years Mike of Sisseton, SD; five children Linda, Florence, Michael, Mary and Nancy; two brothers Roy Spradlin and Ray Neil Spradlin; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty two great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Mary Kathleen; two great granddaughters Joletta Raelynn and Anna Elizabeth; three brothers and two sisters.
