Sherman Peterson was born on December 21, 1933 to Joseph B. and Anna G. (Dahl) Peterson in Enterprise Township in Sisseton. He attended Enterprise Township School until 8 th grade and obtained his GED. He entered the United States Army in September 1956 until 1958 and received a Good Conduct Medal for his service. He obtained basic electrical skills training in the Army and then took a correspondence course to become an expert in heating and air conditioning. Sherman went by many names throughout his life; son, husband, father, brother, and grandfather just to name a few. He lived a life of service and caring for those around him in all aspects of his life. He was first and foremost a servant of the Lord. Sherman was baptized into the Christian faith and served the Lord as a member of Grace Lutheran Church and most recently as a founding member of New Hope Lutheran Church, both in Sisseton. Sherman was united in marriage to Marcia Huebner on December 20, 1958 at St. Luke's Church in Minneapolis, MN. Together they created a home and raised 5 children, Tanya, David, Randy, Suzanne, and Evan. Family was always a priority of Sherman's, giving his family important life advice in addition to unconditional love and support.

He was a patriotic man and his love for his country was undeniable. He not only served in the military, but he was also passionate about politics. Sherman was an active member of the Roberts County Republicans, having served as Committee Man and representing District 1 at the State Republican Convention for many years.

Finally, Sherman served his community as an electrician. He worked many jobs in Sisseton, but really began his electrician career at Kermit Pederson Electric. In 1978 he opened his own shop, Sherman Peterson Electric. He was always willing to go out on an emergency call for a broken heater in January or air conditioner in July if it meant your family would be comfortable. He worked a job that he loved until his retirement in 2017. Sherman passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Sherman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marcia; three sons, David (Donna) Peterson, Randy (Shelly) Peterson of Sisseton and Evan (Jeannie) Peterson of St. Peter, MN; one daughter Suzanne (Mark) Fischer of Sisseton. Nine grandchildren; Joseph (Alicia) Peterson of Aberdeen, SD; Shauna (Zach) Zwart, Adalynn, Jackson, and Violet of Edina, MN; Chris (Amanda) Fischer, Jayden, of Florence, SD; Stephanie (Elliot) Kinnander, Briggs and Rowen of Watertown, SD; Kaden Peterson (Joslin Nelson) of Platte, SD; Haley Peterson of Kennewick, WA; Anthony (Cady) Fischer of Sioux Falls, SD; Tanner and Emily Peterson of St. Peter, MN.
