Shayne was the son of Ervin and Nina Cook. He was raised in Long Hollow. He played all sports while growing up, and was really good at all of them. When he was of age he decided to join the Air Force. When in the Air Force his primary specialty was aircraft structural maintenance. During his time in the service he received the Air Force training ribbon, and Maintenance Occupational Badge. In 1997 he married Luonda Stevens, and to this union they had Shayle and Jeryen. After their separation, he met Leslie Barse and they had Iahna and Jamison; he and Leslie will forever be lifelong friends. When Shayne and Leslies relationship was over, he met Shobi, and brought a beautiful daughter Zitkana into the world. After some time later he had another daughter Milani Smith. His last daughter Lailah was brought into the world during his relationship with Gina LaBelle. Lailah had her dad wrapped around her finger, and was definitely his princess. Even though the relationships with his children's mothers didn't last he always tried to remain on good terms and put the past behind him for the sake of the children. Shayne loved to cruise and "chill". He loved to travel to different Sundance's, Kettle dances, and anything that had to deal with the traditional way of life. He liked to go to Pine Ridge to see his ceremony family. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and teach them the Dakota ways of life. He started to teach his grandsons Jayton, Josiah, and Greyson how to sing Sundance and prayer songs. His granddaughter Jayla was such a big papa's girl, and she would always cry when he left. He was most known for being "Shayne". He was always joking and laughing around. He was "a" cool dad and grandpa he would say. He loved to build and make things for everyone; he was very very creative and crafty. He was most known for making his traditional staffs. He was a great Uncle to his nieces and nephews, and would always be there for them no matter. He always said, "Never take advantage of anyone, you never know when it's their time." Shayne will be greatly be missed by all, especially his contagious laugh, and carefree helping spirit Shayne died on January 19, 2022.
Shayne is survived by his children Shayle Cook, Jeryen Cook, Iahna Cook, Jamison Cook, Zitkana Ho Waste Wi Cook, Milani Smith and Lailah Cook; grandchildren Jayton Haug, Josiah Haug, Jayla Haug, Junia Jo Cook, and Greyson Goodsell; his mother Nina Cook of Sisseton, SD: Six siblings, Ervin Cook Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Desi (Chuck) Smith of Texas, Wambdi (Megan) Cook of Peever, SD, Shawn Cook of Wahpeton, ND, Summer Cook of Washington and Kami Fisher, and many nieces and nephews. .
