Funeral Service for Sgt. Shannon Marie Cook, Canku Topa Win "Four Roads Woman" 36, of Peever, SD will be held at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD on Monday, April 2, 2018 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Clifford Chanku, Darrell Moreau, Episcopal Lay Readers and Traditional Leader Misu Bowker officiating. Drum Groups will be John Redcorn, Wambdi (Sweet Corn) Gill and All Singers and special music will be by Elena Wilson. Pallbearers will be Desert Storm Era Honor Guard, Austin German, Jesse Morris, Jesse Chanku, Justin Chanku, Vince Owen, Hunter Hart, Terrell Cook and Jeryen Cook. Honorary Pallbearers will be All Shannon's friends, family, Danielle Strurt, John Dennis, Bravo Company 701 st , Leslie Sandavol Bonilla, All US Soldiers, Ricky Bucklin, Lisa Gonsalves, Akeelee Deruso, Nate Gawetsen, Patrick Smith, Matthew Hend, Deva K. Gagne, Jeff Taylor, Garrett Keoke, Jared Cook, Jerry Cook, Geraldine Opsal, Winona Parizo, Heminger Family, Leona Iyarpeya, Dareck Thompson, Jeremy Cook, All Sundancers and Pipe Girls. There will be Wake Services on Saturday, March 31, 2018 and Sunday, April 1, 2018 (all night) starting at 7:00 PM at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center. Interment will be at the Cook Family Cemetery, Long Hollow, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Shannon Marie Cook was born on May 5, 1981 at Sisseton, SD to Ervin and Nina (Boshko) Cook Sr. She attended and graduated high school in 1999 from Woodland Park, CO. She joined the U.S. Army on February 9, 2000 and was honorably discharged on October 23, 2006. She received the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge and Basic Marksmanship. Shannon returned home and attended school at Sisseton Wahpeton College and received her Associates of Arts Degree. She married Samuel Sine and raised her family.
Shannon loved cooking, all holidays and decorating and watching football with her family. She always loved cooking out on the grill and loved talking on the phone with all her army friends, friends and family. She enjoyed having water balloon fights with the kids, gardening and fishing. She loved watching her lifetime movies and doing all the girlie things-having her make –up done, doing her nails and toes.
Shannon had the biggest heart; she would always open her home to her nieces and nephews whenever they needed somewhere to stay and was always there to listen when they needed to talk. She always was there to help wherever and whenever needed. Shannon will be so missed by many, her friendly smile and arms open wide ready to give you a big hug. Shannon passed away on March 29, 2018 at home surrounded by her family.
Shannon is survived by her mother Nina Cook; children Michael Smith, Emerson Sine and Wiconi Cook; siblings, Desiree Cook, Shayne Cook, Shawn Cook, Ronald Cook, Wambdi Cook, Ervin Cook Jr., Kami Fisher and Summer Cook; all her nieces and nephews; Sharon and Jessie Morris Family, Dan And Rebecca Foster and Family, Lylis Wells Family, Toni Lafromboise, aunt, Lavena Cook; grandma Margaret Yellowback.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Cook Sr., daughter, Aleeyah Cook; paternal grandparents, Estelle Owen and Herbert Cook Sr.; maternal grandparents, Alexander Boshko and Kathleen Boshko; uncle Herbert Cook Jr.; grandmother, Gladys Davenport and husband Samuel Sine.
