Funeral Service for Scottlyn Sallie Canku , 21 months, of Sisseton, SD will be held on April 18, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at SWO Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Pastor Vern Donnell and Pastor Chris Little officiating. There will be special music by Butch Felix. Pianist is Billy Kohl. Drum group is Old Agency Singers. Pallbearers will be Cole Bernard, Marshall Flannery, John Lincoln, James German, Marshall DuMarce, and Timothy "TJ" Max Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Daniel Mark, Pam Koepsell, Tammy Langager, Jessi Moen, Laura Frankenhoff, Brenda Hoium, April Flannery, Cristy Davidson, Rachel Zinski, Lisa Kuipers, Elsie German, Angie Gaikowski, and Brook Grajczyk. Interment will be at St Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Agency Village, SD.  There will be Wake Services on Saturday evening at the SWO Tribal Community Center from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and Sunday evening will be an All-Night Wake Service starting at 7:00 P.M. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Scottlyn Sallie Canku (Kimamna Ska Win - White Butterfly Woman) went to be with the Lord at 11:11 AM on April 13th, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Sanford Childrens Hospital in Sioux Falls SD.

At 22 weeks, Chelsey/mom went for a routine ultrasound and it was discovered that Scottlyn had holoprosencephaly, a condition in which the brain doesn't fully develop. Chelsey and Billy were told Scottlyn would not make it to birth but if she did, she would not live very long after birth. Mom and Dad were prepared for the worst. Despite the diagnosis Scottlyn came into this world on June 17th, 2020, and brought joy to our lives for nearly two years.

Scottlyn's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. Her smile, her laugh, her tenderness would melt the hearts of everyone around her, despite never speaking a word.

Scottlyn's illness made her appear frail, but she only possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With Scottlyn's courage she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create a lifetime of memories. Even though Scottlyn did not make it to her second birthday, we celebrated 12 birthdays, one each month until she turned one. We found that Scottlyn loved to laugh at all kinds of sounds and noises. With her feisty and big attitude filled with sass, she would give her grandmas' some eyerolls, while always smiling and laughing for her papa's. Scottlyn was always able to yell and talk to her loved ones, and loved telling them to "go on'' when she had enough.   Scottlyn definitely found her strength, in her punch at a young age, and let her family know it when she was mad, with a quick jab. Scottlyn's life was filled with many appointments, and she loved to prove Dr. Mark wrong. She had such a love/hate relationship with all the therapy she had to complete. She was definitely a superhero at each of these appointments.

Scottlyn loved to lick sour patch kids candy, when she did not have her pacifier. She loved to watch Lion King, Anastasia, and Encanto with her Mom. Scottlyn loved her couch so much her Mom had to join her in the living room to make her more comfortable.   She could always feel her angels that surrounded her and would laugh and play with them every day. Like any other baby sister, she loved hanging out with her big sister Keana. Even more so loved being able to be with her favorite sister, in her bedroom. Scottlyn loved when her daddy's friends would drive by in their semi's and honk. Nothing would compare to her Daddy getting home, it was her absolute favorite time. Scottlyn Sallie fought long and hard but we knew it was time to let her go to be free in heaven where we know she's fully healed.

Scottlyn is survived by her parents; Billy and Chelsey (Owen) Canku and her sister Keana Owen; her grandparents, Milton (Nippy) and Barbara Owen, Angi Johnson, Billy and Rhea Canku. Also numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Scottlyn is preceded in death by her great grandparents; Sallie Canku, Chris and Shirley Johnson and her aunt Courtney Owen.
