Scott Reade Thompson, 66, of Sisseton, SD passed away peacefully on Friday, November 30, 2018 at home in Sisseton, SD. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at the Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Scott was born August 24, 1952 in Fargo, North Dakota to Helen and Ervin Thompson. His father was owner and chief executive of Steel Structures Equipment Company. Scott worked for him, learning carpentry and welding. He attended St. James Military Academy in Fairbault, Minnesota. He took pride in helping build his cabin home in Loon Lake, in Minnesota. He loved boating, water skiing, traveling around the country in his motor home, and his motorcycle. After losing his leg in a motorcycle accident in 1982 he bravely carried on with his life for 37 years. During his travels he met several country western stars while playing his guitar. Among his acquaintances were Mick Jagger, and he once drove Willie Nelson's motor home to a gig in Tennessee when Mr. Nelson's driver was suddenly disabled.
The family requests any donations be given to the food bank in Sisseton, and any remembrances forwarded to Cahill Funeral Chapel.
Scott is survived by his sister, Gail Glass and her husband Jim of Spokane, Washington.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Lane Snedden.
