Memorial Mass for Sallie A. Canku, 83, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek Celebrant. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Urnbear will be Billy Canku Jr. Honorary Urnbearers are Micah Eastman, Sidney Williams, T.J. Abraham, Ernest Keeble Jr., Ryan Barse, Tyrell Eastman. There will be a Memorial Wake Service on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Sallie A. Canku was born on April 17 ^th , 1936 in Philadelphia, MS to Bo Bo Steve and Lucille Sam-Steve. She was a member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. Sallie lived many places in her life including Chicago, Il. It is there where she met and married Clifford Canku Sr. on September 23, 1963. Eventually they moved to Sisseton, SD. She also lived in Wagner, SD, Tempe, AZ. She also attended the University of Dubuque, Dubuque, IA. Sallie relied strongly on her faith in God. She loved animals, especially dogs. She loved to read, her favorite Author was Danielle Steel. Her son Clifford Jr., saw to it that she got every new release of her latest books. Her children and her grandchildren meant everything to her. She tried to attend all of their sporting events to cheer them on. She was an avid Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs fan. She passed away on April 19 ^th , 2019 at the Wilmot Care Center, at the age of 83. The family would like to thank the Wilmot Care Center for taking care of Sallie. We are forever grateful.

Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Morris Canku, Sisseton, SD, Bill (Rhea) Canku Sr., Flandreau, SD and Clifford (Angela) Canku Jr., San Tan Valley, AZ.,   Step-Son Guy (Dina) Canku, Sisseton, SD, grandchildren, Katlyn Canku, Linda Renville, Miranda (Justin) White, Billy Canku Jr. (Chelsey), Shawn Williams, Aaron Moshier, Payton Canku and Ambrosia (Patrick) Cox, great-grandchildren, Tyrell Eastman, Micah Eastman, Niya Eastman, Zane White, Wasuska White, Alayna Walsh, Sidney Williams, Shaylene Keeble , Ernest Keeble Jr., Ryan Barse, Shelby Morales, Isabel Morales, Persephanie Cox and Elijah Cox, and three great-great grandchildren, Zane, Lilly, and Liam.

Sallie is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Martha Canku, her sisters and one brother.
