Funeral Service for Ruth (Holmberg) Elton, 93 of Sisseton, South Dakota will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Rev. William Schruba officiating. Organist will be Mona Greseth and soloist will be Pat Schubert. Pallbearers will be Gary Elton, Dennis Elton, Pat Hedrick, Donald Nelson, Russell Veflin, and Irving Slaamot. Honorary Pallbearers will be "The Tekakwitha Living Center Staff. Interment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. There will be visitation will be Friday, March 26, 20l0 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 PM. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. at Cahill Funeral Chapel. There will be visitation one hour prior to the services at the church.
Ruth Holmberg was born on June 24, 1916 to Nils and Ragnhild (Kalbak) Holmberg at the family farm home in Hart Township, Roberts County, South Dakota. She attended country school in Hart Township. Ruth would walk to visit her neighbor and friend Cora. After finishing school, she worked in Sisseton and Minneapolis doing house work. On June 30, 1939, Ruth was united in marriage to Edward Elton. They made their home in Hart Township. As a housewife and mother she did the housework, cooking and caring for the family. She also helped with chores and field work. Later she worked for Landsberger Creamery and Produce and Schiltz Food Inc. in Sisseton for several years. Edward passed away in April of 1986. She continued to live on the farm helping with the farm. Ruth's health began to fail and she became a resident of Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD in August 1997. Ruth is a member of Grace Lutheran Church. Ruth passed away on March 22, 2010 at the Tekakwitha Living Center, Sisseton, SD.
Ruth is survived by one daughter, Sharon Hedrick and husband Pat Hedrick of Clamamas, OR; two sons, Gary Elton of Sturgis, SD and Dennis Elton of Sisseton, SD.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward, two brothers Oscar and Carl and two infant sisters.
