Russell Glenn Barse 'Old Guy'

Funeral Service for Russell G. Barse, 68 of Peever, SD will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Officiating will be Frank Barse Jr., Levi Keoke, Darrell Mireau and Clyde Kampeska with Pianist Billy Kohl and Drum Group will be Russell Barse Grandsons and Great-Grandsons. Pall Bearers will be Jared Barse Sr, Gabriel Barse, Jacob Barse, Sr, Stanley Barse, Jr,  Brandon Barse, Austin Barse, Cheyenne Barse, Troy Barse, Perry Loudner and Michael "Mikey" Selvage, Jr. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Leroy Brown, Hank Iyarpeya, Dewayne Boyd, Sr., Derrick Locke, Mato Mallory, Tucker Getzlaff, Willie Wilkie, Bobby Williams, Philip Barse, Keith Barse, Mike Barse, Kevin Barse, Farlin Barse, Dakota Magic employees, Dakota Sioux Employees, and Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority employees Past and Present and the Old Agency Executives. Wake Services will be Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at 7:00 P.M.  and All-night wake on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center. Interment will be at St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Agency Village, SD.  Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD are in charge of arrangements.

Russell Glenn Barse, 68, of Peever, SD passed away on June 6, 2026, in Breckenridge, MN. He was born on June 29th, 1957, to Frank "Jack" and Violet (Renville) Barse in Sisseton, SD. As a child, Russell attended the Old Agency Day School, Peever Elementary School then Sisseton Middle and High schools. He later completed his GED and achieved his certifications in plumbing and carpentry. He began working at a young age, first at the Mobile cafe and gas station then the Dakota Sioux Casino as a floor person, later in DSC security. He then transferred to Dakota Magic Casino in the security department. He also was employed at the Enemy Swim Day School for a time. He was currently employed at the Sisseton-Wahpeton Housing Authority (26 years) where he worked alongside his brother Frankie and nephews Stanely Jr and Jacob and Dakota Magic Casino where he celebrated his 5 years of employment, both in the maintenance departments. He was also a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan, attending his first game with Gabe and Jared. Russell also enjoyed playing sports, which included fast/slow pitch, amateur baseball, playing for Waubay, boxing, darts, bowling leagues, fishing and golf. He put in his all in whatever sport he was involved in and was quite athletically talented. He thoroughly enjoyed being able to play softball with his boys Jared, Gabe, and his many nephews and grandsons and his time spent golfing and playing darts with David.

Russell held a very special bond with his brother David, they were inseparable. From children growing up as first playmates, into adulthood, through their sport endeavors, and to his final moments here on earth, David was with him playing golf at the Dakota Magic. Russell also stayed close with Ruth Iyarpeya, even after their relationship ended. They stayed friends and committed to raising their children. They still enjoyed family get-togethers and planned family trips. Russell loved being a papa and had a special bond with his grandchildren. He would let Makayla paint his nails when she was younger and would proudly show off the results and now it is Daisy's turn painting them. He made time for all his grandkids and was so proud of them. Russell also had a close relationship with the Barse relatives in the Waubay area.

He had an exceptional way of making life-long friends and through his endeavors in life, he made quite a few.  He had a kind and loving soul that had a lasting impact on those around him. From the softball fields, bowling leagues to the casinos and all around the community, we feel this loss. Russell was the current and long-time serving Sergeant at Arms for the Old Agency District.

Survivors include his siblings, Randy Barse, Brenda Solberg, Frank "Frankie" Barse, Jr, Peggy (Darrell) DeCoteau, Faith Erickson, Anita Johnson, David Barse, Donna Barse, Joyce Veronica Ojeda, Cecelia "Connie" (Dean) Abraham, Eleanor Kirk.

Children, Stephanie Williams of Sisseton, Amber (Dewayne) Adams-Boyd of Sisseton, Marjorie Hayes of Peever, Gabriel Barse of Watertown, Jared Barse of Enemy Swim, Cassandra (Chad) Steiner of Watertown, Grandchildren, Monique, Emma, Laci, Jaime, James, Jaline, JahNya, Colter, Dewayne,Jr, Makayla, Gaberiella, Graysen, Ayanna, Phoenix, Nexxon, Lux, Lily, Isaac, Serenity, Avah, Jared, Jr, Trinitii, Jurnee, Chad, Jr, Kirk, Kailey, Reed, and Dorin.

Great-Grandchildren, Khaleesi, Ethelyn, Atticus, Memphis, Maverick, Sylvanus, Josie, Sterling and new great-grandson arriving in December. Russell is also survived by his special granddaughter, Daisy, whom he was raising and was his constant companion. And by his uncle Harvey (Ramona) Renville, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. If you know our family, you know how vast it is.

He is preceded by his parents, Frank "Jack" and Violet Barse. Aunts, Augusta Redearth, Ellrine Keoke, Marcellaine Kirk, Louise Jones, Juanita Renville-Shindlebower, Rachel Mae Renville, Joyce Barse, Charlotte Barse, Cleo Barse, Erma Barse, and Gloria Barse.
