Funeral Service for Rose Marie Heminger, Hoksiyopa Wahca, Flower Child , 70, of Peever, SD will be held on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 10:00 A.M. at the Peever Community Center in Peever, South Dakota with Rev. Antoine American Horse, Veredelia American Horse and CRE Jr. Heminger and Pastor Milton "Nippy" Owen officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Special music from Butch Felix. Drum group Red Point Camp. Pallbearers will be Jacky White, Richard White, Kyle Williams, Justin Heminger, Jacob Barse Jr., Isaiah Barse, Aaron Goodsell, Jaris Barse, JaVonte Barse, Albert Heminger, Andre Heminger, Avery Heminger, Tracy Heminger Jr., Brandon Heminger, Kaleb Heminger Darrell White, and David White. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bobby Owen, Myrna Thompson, Cynthia Starr, Eileen Pfeiffer, Lolita LaBatte, Verdelia American Horse, Paula Looking Horse-Avrol, Judy BittenNose-Eagle, Brenda Solberg, Becky Theisen, Julie Williams, June Adams, Lois Kohl, Leri Lee Williams, Norma DeCoteau, Nona Siyaka, Dawn Eagle, Jolene Abraham and John German Sr. Interment will be in Ascension (Iyakaptapi) Presbyterian Cemetery, Big Coulee, South Dakota. Masks and social distancing are required . The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Heminger, the youngest of 4 children, Rose was born in Sisseton, South Dakota to Zelma (Williams) Heminger and Francis Heminger on October 15th, 1951. After her parents passed away in July 1953, Rose, her brother Daniel, and sister Linda were raised by their grandparents, Rebecca and Daniel Williams.

Rose attended school at Tekakawitha Orphanage, Mechanic Arts High School in Saint Paul, MN; and graduated from Sisseton High School. Rose then moved to Los Angeles, California where her eldest son, Tracy, was born. Rose returned home to Sisseton where she had her second son, John. Rose later graduated from Sisseton Tribal College. She met Stan Barse Sr. and together they raised their children Stan Barse Jr, Lynette, and Jacob.

While married and raising her family, Rose worked for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Tribal Court alongside Judge Neuharth for several years where she said she thoroughly enjoyed her work in the legal field. Rose was an artist when it came to making star quilts. She loved traveling with her family visiting friends in Canada and neighboring states. She enjoyed listening to inspirational music, which uplifted her spirit. She was most generous to friends and relatives, always greeting them with a smile. She was there when called upon to offer a helping hand. Rose was a firm believer of Jesus Christ, the son of her living God. Rose said that belief has gotten her through many hardships. Rose Heminger passed away at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, South Dakota on February 5 ^th , 2022 surrounded by family.

Rose is survived by her: Sons: Tracy Lee Heminger, Sr (Leslie); John Heminger (Yolanda); Vivica Barse, Stan Barse Jr (Jessica); Jacob Barse. Daughters: Lynette Barse; Rebekkah Rose Heminger. Twenty-four grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Maternal Brothers  Frank Williams, David White, Darrel White, Richard White, Jacky White and Randy White. Maternal Sister Shar Siyaka (nee Sarah Williams); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and companion, Gilbert Kohl.

Rose is preceded in death by: her children's father Stan Barse; Parents: Zelma V. (Williams) Heminger & Francis Harvey Heminger; Brothers: Daniel (Butch) Williams, Francis Heminger Jr. Sister: Linda Rene Leith.

Maternal Family: Grandparents: Rebecca (DeMarrias) Williams and Daniel Harris Williams; Great-grandparents: Moses Williams and Jenny Plume-Williams; Frank DeMarrias & Sarah Wanna. Great-great-grandparents: Siyaka & Annie (Hunka); Waanatanm great grandchild Laysen Lawrence.

Paternal Family: Grandparents: Ruth Abigail Wakeman (Towaste Win) & Rev. Albert Heminger; Great-grandparents: Judith Minnetonka (Tatihuakawaza Win) & Thomas Wakeman (WOWINAPE); Anthony Heminger & Lucy Heminger (Tawipaindaye); Great-great-grandparents: Mary Wakeman (Maza Iyege) & Chief Little Crow (Ta Oyate Duta).
