Funeral Service for Ronald Patrick Owen, Wi Yuha Inazin, "Stands with the sun", 70, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, SD with the Rev. Fr. Jerry Ranek officiating. Organist will be Billy Kohl with special music by Butch Felix. Pallbearers will be Ronald Taylor, Weston Quinn, Arthur Skenadore, Jared Wegleitner, Jonathan Massey, RJ Doxtater, Owen Quinn, Cody Massey, and Corey Shepherd Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kathy and Les Barse, Mickey Renville, Bill Keoke, Jackie White, Rev. Eugene "Snuffy" King, Frank Barse, Lorne Lowe, Levi Keoke Jr., Dakota Sioux Casino Co-Workers, Dakota Connection Casino Buddies, "all Lakeland Lanes Bowlers", and the Prairie Lakes - Sisseton Dialysis Staff and Patients. Military rites will be provided by the Kit Fox society with burial in the Sisseton Cemetery. Wake Services will be held at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Hall, Sisseton, SD at 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 13, 2019 and Monday, January 14, 2019, an all night wake. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Ronald Patrick Owen was born to Lillian DeMarrias Owen and Hiram C. Owen in Sisseton South Dakota on September 6, 1948. He attended high school in Argo Ill., and enlisted in the Army in 1969 during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Seoul South Korea. After returning home Ron made his home in Chicago until he moved home in 1976. Ron worked for the tribe and when Dakota Sioux Casino was built he worked there for 30 years until he retired due to ill health. Ron was an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan, Ron loved to bowl, work on his cars, listening to the Blues, spending time with his family and liked to visit the casinos.
Ron is survived by his mother, Lillian Owen of Sisseton SD, children, Jill Mead Cataldo of Ottumwa, Iowa, Dawn (Art) Skenadore of Oneida, WI, Stacey (Jared) Wegleitner of Sisseton, SD, Lillian "Cori" (Clinton Skenadore) Owen of Green Bay, WI, Canunpa Pink of Hemet, California, Quentin Owen of Watertown, SD, Dacia Owen, Devlin Owen and Stephen Owen of Enemy Swim, SD, Brothers, Michael (Toni) Owen, of Enemy Swim, SD, Howard "Jody" (Cheryl) Owen of Agency Village, SD, Sisters, Denise (Rich) Stebbing of Rohnert
Park, CA, Debbie (Randy) Adams of Kalamazoo, MI, Michelle Seaboy of Sisseton, SD, Candy (James) Ring of Garrett, KY, Crystal Owen of Sisseton, SD, Kelley Petrilli Bashew of Abington, PA. Ron is survived by 34 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Ron was preceded in death by his father, Hiram C. Owen, paternal grandparents, Howard and Lydia Owen, Maternal grandparents John DeMarrias and Mary Brown, Daughter, Ronelle Patricia Owen, Granddaughters Kelsey Dawn Englund and Aiyana Catherine-Germaine Englund.
Ron's humor and positive outlook on life was one of a kind and it never faltered, even as his health declined. We will all miss the laughter that he brought to each and every one of us. "Death never takes a warrior by surprise; he is always ready to go"
