Obituary

Funeral Service for Ronald Borns, 80, of Twin Brooks, SD will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, South Shore, SD with Rev. Ken Nelson officiating. Organists will be Colleen Quade and Isabelle Nelson. Pallbearers will be Tyler Borns, Eric Borns, Jake Huff, Scott Butler, Scott Calvert, George Goodhart, and Justin Jonason.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Emily Jonason, Erin Calvert, Amber Johannsen, Allison Butler, Jessie Huff, Britni Goodhart, and all of Ron's great-grandchildren, friends, and co-workers.  Interment will be in the St. Luke's Cemetery, South Shore, SD with military rites by the V.F.W. Grant County Post #3486. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ronald D. Borns was born on July 2, 1939 in Watertown, SD to Edwin and Alice (Monte) Borns. He grew up on a farm near South Shore, SD. He attended country school and graduated from South Shore High School. After his education he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1959 to 1961. He married Lois Nielsen on January 28, 1959 in Watertown, SD. Ron worked for the Milwaukee railroad and then returned to the Milbank area where he worked for local quarries for a number of years. Ron started working for Valley Queen Cheese Factory in September of 1978 until his first retirement in October of 2001. He returned to Valley Queen where he worked part time until his final retirement in October of 2018.

Ron was a lifetime member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in South Shore, SD. Ron enjoyed playing fast pitch softball in his younger years. He was an avid pool player for many, many years and loved the sport, as well as the people around him. Ron loved to tinker in the garage, attend auctions, mow lawns, and blow snow for many of his neighbors in Twin Brooks. He had a great liking for country music and the Hoe-Down. Each time Ron went visiting, he had a new joke to tell. Ron treasured his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ron passed away at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown, SD on September 12, 2019 after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois of Twin Brooks, SD, five children, Dan (Nancy) Borns of Twin Brooks, SD, Becky (Bruce) Johannsen of Milbank, SD, Chris (Lyle) Carsrud of Brookings, SD, Annette (Dennis) Hutchins of Sisseton, SD, and Jim Borns (Sara Opitz) of Milbank, SD, 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way, a sister, Geraldine (Harold) Wartenbee of Belmont, CA, one brother-in-law, Roy (Diane) Nielsen of Marvin, SD, and one sister-in-law, Joyce (Wally) Norby of Bellingham, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Alice, brother, Sylvester, and sisters, Laverna Redlin and Isabelle Schmeling.
