Memorial Service for Roger Laubach, 84, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Aaron Deutsch (great-nephew of Roger) and Pastor Patrick Jenkins officiating. Organist will be Estelle Pearson and Music by Kalli Nightingale, Ashley Fahnhorst and Alan LaFave. Inurnment will be in the Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Urn bearer will be Casey Grimsrud. Honorary Urn Bearers will be Gordie Groos, Pat Deutsch Sr., Patrick Deutsch Jr., Scott Deutsch, Terry Deutsch, Brandon Deutsch, Kevin Deutsch, Jason Deutsch and George Kjellsen. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service. Masks and social distancing are required. Seating will be limited. The service will be live streamed via the Grace Lutheran Church Face book page. In lieu of flowers, Roger requested donations be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Foundation, 421 3 rd Avenue E, Sisseton SD 57262. The Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Roger Wayne Laubach, 84, of Sisseton, SD passed away January 22, 2021 at his home, surrounded by family, thanks to the wonderful care of the Prairie Lakes Hospice Team.
Roger was born on February 25, 1936 in Sisseton, SD to Joe and Fena (Strand) Laubach. He went to Sisseton Public School where he excelled in athletics, including basketball, football and track, giving him the nickname "Stretch." He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1955. After graduating, he attended South Dakota State University where he played basketball and football. After two years of college, he entered the United States Army stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington from 1957-1958. When he returned, Roger married Doris Marie Gerber on May 30, 1959 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton and moved to Aberdeen; SD. Roger worked in road construction for the B.I.A. as a highway engineering technician. In 1970, Roger graduated from Northern State University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts and Vocational Education. Roger and his family then moved back to Sisseton where he began teaching and helped develop the multi-district vocational and technical education program, including woodshop and the most current trends available in computer aided design and drafting. He touched the lives of many students, influencing several to pursue education and technical careers. Following his retirement, he continued to assist engineering firms with local building projects. He enjoyed finding secret fishing spots with his buddies and niece, Jo Marie, playing cards with his nephews and great nephews (the Deutsch boys) who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Buck," bowling, helping on the farm, and drinking coffee at Billy's and K&K. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending their athletic events and activities. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, Doris: daughter Kim (Cory) Grimsrud of Sisseton and children Courtney Grimsrud of Denver, CO, Casey (Holly Beck) Grimsrud and children Madisyn, Avery, Lincoln, Camden of Watertown, Kelsey (Shane) Cunningham of Aberdeen , and Kalli (Ethan) Nightingale and children Grayson and Wesley of Sisseton: daughter Kari (Alan) LaFave of Valley City, ND, and children Ashley (Logan) Fahnhorst of Fargo, ND and Lexi LaFave of Aberdeen, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bud and Arnold Laubach and his sister, Rosie Deutsch.
