Funeral Service for Roberta D. "Gypsy" Owen-Fayant, 77 of Waubay, SD will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at the Enemy Swim Community Center, Enemy Swim at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Charles Chan and Lay Reader Valerie Augustin officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. Drum Group will be Long Elk. Pallbearers will be Christopher Fayant, Nathan Shepherd, Blue Grant, Tyler Fayant, Simon Keeble, Cameron Fayant, Garret Iyarpeya, Raymond Shepherd III and Honorary Pallbearers will be Aurelia Louie, Ruth Campbell, Hank Iyarpeya, Danita Greene, Donna Rouillard, Jimmy Hopkins, Marcel "Myya" Hopkins, Randy Iyarpeya, Bob Iyarpeya, Sophie Bissonette, and All Roberta's Friends & Family. Interment will be in St. James' Episcopal Cemetery, Enemy Swim. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Roberta Diane "Gypsy" Owen-Fayant was born on May 8, 1938 in Sisseton, SD to Wilbert Greeley and Goldie Owen. She attended school and graduated from Flandreau Indian School. Later she moved to Colorado where she met Wilfred Fayant Sr. They where married on September 17, 1958. Roberta lived in numerous places, which is how she got the name "Gypsy". She loved to travel, sew, do puzzles, and listen to music, and spending time and visiting with family. Roberta worked as a cook for the elderly and at numerous restuarants as a dish washer. Roberta was a kind and loving person. She was "mom" to a lot of people. She was the type of person to help someone if they needed it, and if she had it. Roberta passed away on December 22, 2015 at Sanford Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD.
Roberta is survived by four sons, Kenneth Fayant and Wilfred Fayant Jr. of Waubay, SD. Rodney Fayant and Ronald Fayant of Watertown, SD; three daughters, Debbie Fayant of Watertown, SD, Barbara Iyarpeya and Roxanne Hislaw of Waubay, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren,
Roberta was prceded in death by her parents, Goldie Owen and Wilbert Greeley; her husband Wilfred Fayant Sr., one daughter, Cheryl Ann Fayant; one son Kevin Fayant; grandsons, Ronald Thennis, Cody Campbell and Jason Shepherd; great grandchildren, Chaske Sage Geshick Iyarpeya, Jessica Shepherd and Aiden Shepherd-Vermillion.
