Memorial Service for Robert E. Metcalf, 81 of Tacoma, WA, formerly of Wilmot, SD will be held on November 11, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Wilmot Presbyterian Church.
Robert was born on November 30, 1927 in Graceville, MN to Opal (Cameron) and Floyd Metcalf. He grew up on the family farm north of Wilmot during the big depression. He graduated from Wilmot High School in 1946 and went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. He was hired by the Boeing Aircraft Company Seattle, WA immediately after earning his engineering degree. He spent the majority of his working career in the aerospace industry, retiring in 1993. He was a very lucky man, because he truly enjoyed what he did for a living. Among Bob's favorite hobbies were his cars, shooting his many guns and repairing castoff and broken devices, both electrical and mechanical. All his life Bob repaired his friends' vehicles and other troublesome devices because he enjoyed the challenge and he like to help others. He passed away on July 11, 2009 at his home in Tacoma, WA.
Bob is survived by numerous cousins in South Dakota and a lot of friends in Montana and Washington.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, all his aunts and uncles and two cousins.
Memorials may be directed to the Rural School Restoration Fund through the Wilmot Bank or Jean Jones.
