Memorial service for Richard A. Lawrence Sr., 61, of Peever, SD will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD at 2:00 P.M. with CRE Gerlad Heminger Jr. officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl. There will be a Wake service on Friday, May 1, 2026, at SWOTCC, Agency Village, SD starting from 7:00 P.M.- 9:00 P.M. Urn Bearers will be Nicholas Lawrence, Richard Lawrence Jr., Wyatt Lawrence, Elliot Schoenrock, Jesse Renville, and Embry Renville. Honorary Urn Bearers will be James Bird, Verlyn Beaudreau, Vincent Owen, Mark Shindelbower, Arnold Williams, Marlon Amos, Francis Crawford, Gary Gaikowski, Clifford LaFontaine, and Richard's nieces and nephews. Military Rites by Kit Fox Society. Inurnment will be held at the St. Mary's Episcopal Cemetery, Agency Village, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Aldrick Lawrence Sr. was born to Samuel Archie Lawrence and Lillian Mae (Bird) Lawrence on May 26, 1964, in Sisseton, SD. He stayed in Sisseton during his schooling years and married Davana Seaboy. After obtaining his G.E.D., Richard attended and graduated from the Moler Barber College of Hair in Fargo, ND. He then enlisted into the US Army and became a Police Military officer at a base in Germany and Europe during the years 1985-1987. During his time in the service, Richard received the following medals/badges: Sharpshooter, M-16 Rifle, Expert, Hand Grenade, Marksmen, .38 Caliber Pistol, and Army Service ribbon. Richard and Davana had three children together: Ashleigh Lawrence, Richard Lawrence Jr., and Nicholas Lawrence. The family lived in Aberdeen, SD where he worked as a taxi driver, school bus driver, and at Hub City Engineering. In 1995, they moved back to Sisseton and after a few years parted ways. Richard became a Tribal Police Officer and worked at the Police department for a few years. He then met and married Rhonda Schoenrock and to this union came a daughter Lillian Lawrence and two stepsons Austin and Elliot Schoenrock. By 2000, he worked at the Dakota Magic Casino as a security officer, Woodland Cabinetry, Dakota Western and SWO Community Transit. Richard was a simple, hard-working man who was always working multiple jobs – even up until his death. He was always smiling and still found time for many hobbies. In his early years, he liked to work on cars, cut hair, fish, and ride motorcycles. As Richard got older, he enjoyed reading, watching sports (his favorite team being the Denver Broncos), and going to his children's basketball games. Richard passed away on April 20, 2026, at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Richard is survived by his children Richard Lawrence Jr. of Sisseton, SD, Ashleigh Lawrence of Peever, SD, Nicholas Lawrence of Sisseton, SD, Elliot Schoenrock of Summit, SD, Lillian Lawrence of Summit, SD, and Wyatt Lawrence of Watertown, SD; siblings Joni Lawrence of Watertown, SD, Sonya Lawrence of Long Hollow, SD, Sara Hayes of Agency Village, SD, Robin Lawrence of Agency Village, SD, and James Bird of Sisseton, SD; and grandchildren Taige Renville, Jesse Renville, Embry Renville, Davana Renville, Ashlynn Renville, and Ezmae Schoenrock.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Lillian (Bird) Lawrence; stepson Austin Schoenrock; and sister Sara Hayes.
