Obituary

Funeral Service for Richard Terrance Bird, Tatanka Tokaheya, "First Buffalo" 39, of South Shore, SD will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Spiritual Leaders will be Bill Bird and Butch Felix. Special music will be by the Little Gill Girls. The Drum Group will be Long Elk. Pallbearers will be Brad Cloud, Shilo Renville, Joshua Pratt, Landis Barse, LaVoy Wakinyansapa, James Mulligan Jr., Jason LaFontaine, Soloman Goodsell, and Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeremy Barse, Ernest Barse Jr. Shawn Blue, Marcel Almell, Matt Thompson, Lindsay Bird, Jeremy Brown, Damon White, Troy Barse, Les Barse Jr., Cory Renville, Quinton Barse, and Michael Sierra. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. Wake Services will be held at the Tribal Community Center, Agency Village at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 with an all night wake on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Richard Terrance Bird was born on February 27, 1974 in Sisseton, SD to Georgia Wright. He grew up and attended school at Tiospa Zina Tribal School. Following his education Richard worked at Dakota Magic and Dakota Sioux Casino as a cook. Richard liked to listen to music, play poker, fishing, camping and going to Pow Wow's. He was a big Chicago Bears Fan. He liked to help others and spend time with family and friends. Richard passed away suddenly on July 8, 2013 at the Coteau Des Prairies Hospital, Sisseton, SD.
Richard is survived by his parents, Georgia and Marcus Wright of South Shore, SD; four children, Cameron Xavier Bird of Sisseton, SD, Chauncey Sage Bird of Sisseton, SD, Alexander Caelon Bird of Summit, SD and Caitlynn Ryder Seaboy of Summit, SD; one sister, Selena Olson of Montevideo, MN; two brothers, Brock Olson and Brad Olson of Montevideo, MN; two grandchildren, Josiah Francis Bird and Malaya Sakari Bird; and one uncle Richard F. Bird of Sisseton, SD.
Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Josiah Francis Bird and maternal grandmother, Rosebud Marie Bird.
