Funeral Service for Richard Arlan Atkinson, 60, of Seattle, WA will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center, Peever, SD with Junior Heminger CLP officiating. Pianist will be Billy Kohl with special music by Richard's nieces. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronald "Chaska" Hill and Corby Langdeau Jr.. Interment will be in the Ascension Presbyterian Cemetery, Peever, SD. There will be a wake on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 held at 7:00 P.M. at the Big Coulee District Center.
Richard Arlan Atkinson was born on June 6, 1954 at Sisseton, SD to Dennis Enoch and Dorothy Atkinson. He was raised by his grandparents until their death. At this time Richard began moving around, and settled on the west coast in Seattle, WA, where he lived for forty years. He will always be remembered for his smile, his laughter, and his fun loving personality. Richard passed away on October 21, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was blessed with terrific and tender care from the Promanent Hospice Care staff of Seattle, WA.
Richard is survived by three daughters, Elizabeth Atkinson of Helena, MT, Jocelin Grace Atkinson, and Katrina Barse-Simon of Sisseton, SD, Nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one great-great grandchild, seven half sisters, Betty Jo Atkinson-Amos of Sisseton, SD, Phoebe Quinn-Thompson of Fargo, ND, Susan Ouinn-Amos of Long Hollow, SD, Frieda Quinn of Billings, MT, Donna Quinn-Thompson of Sisseton, SD, Anna Quinn of Yankton, SD, Three half brothers, Willis Quinn of Watertown, SD, Joseph Atkinson of CA, and Dennis Enoch of Sisseton, SD, one half sister, Alvira Enoch of Sisseton, SD, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins..
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Joseph and Grace Heminger-Atkinson.
