Obituary

Funeral Service for Richard "Duke" Alan Wilson Tuwan Maza (works with iron), 73 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center, Agency Village, SD with Rev. Jerome Renville Sr., Pastor Morgan Redday, Jr. Heminger CLP and Virgil Foote officiating. Pianist  will be Kay Bursheim and special music by Tom, Elena, John and Brian Wilson. Pallbearers will be Tom Wilson, Brian Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Paul Begay, Nate Johnson, Galan Renville Sr., Galan Renville Sr., Roger Redday Jr., Wesley Redday and Shirley Redday. Honorary pallbearers will be Sal Goodteacher, Korbyn Bertsch, Viola Lotz Hanson, Andrew Grey Sr., Dakota Connection Slot Techs, John Eagle, Ole Little Eagle, Vernon Iron Cloud, Harry Moshier Sr. and Cheyenne River Vietnam Organization. Wake services will be held on Saturday at 7:00 PM at the Old Agency District Center and Sunday and all night on Monday all starting at 7PM at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Community Center. Interment will be in the Veteran Section of the Sisseton City Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by the Sisseton Wahpeton Kit Fox Society.  The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of Funeral arrangements.

Duke was born on April 16, 1944 to Nathan H. Wilson and Helen Eagle in Sisseton, South Dakota. At a young age with his siblings went to the Tekawitha Orphanage and was separated and went to Wahpeton Boarding School, ND then returned to rural Sisseton until the age of 16 and he joined the Army. He married Celeste Greeley and later married Jeanette LaCroix July 15, 1974. After serving in the Army he lived in Standing Rock, Bullhead, Eagle Butte and returned to Sisseton.   He worked for the Tribal and Sisseton Police Department. He enjoyed mechanical work on cars, making dolls, drawing designs for star quilts and going to the casinos.

He is survived by brothers, Glenn Wilson, Brian Wilson, Emmett Redday and Leroy Redday; sisters, Dorothea Wilson, Delores Larson, Dawn Wilson, Joann Bachmann, Audrey Lawrence, Brenda Wilson, Diana Starcivich, Yvonne Ulbricht, Valerie VanHeuveln, Brenda Redday, Betty Redday-Dwarf, Bonita Redday-Wilson and Maria Redday-DeCoteau; daughter, Shalene Greywind; step children, Goldie Flying Hawk, Harvey LaCroix, Sandra Tweten and Patty LaCroix.; numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Duke was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, LeRoy Francis Wilson, Baine E. Wilson, Elroy Wilson, Robert Bobby Wilson, Oliver Wilson, Roger Redday Sr. and Darren Redday; sisters, Shirley Wilson and Gayla May Redday and step daughter, Peggy Redwing.
