Obituary

Funeral Service for Randy Ray Birdsall, 59, of New Effington, SD will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD with Rev. Larry Wegener officiating. Mona Greseth will be the organist with Misty Marotte as the soloist. Pallbearers will be Robin and Austin Richards, Shane Birdsall, Conrad DuMarce, Gerry Tucker, and Sam Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Randy's grandchildren. Military rites will be provided by the Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and the Fort Sisseton V.F.W. Post #3342 with interment in the Sisseton Cemetery. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.

Randy was born in Sisseton, SD to Clinton Birdsall and Bonnie (Aadland) Birdsall Schuppan on February 19, 1957. He attended school in Sisseton and was baptized and confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church. Randy joined the U.S. Marine Corp on February 19, 1974 and served until December 20, 1977 during which time he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and Meritorious Mast. He then joined the U.S. Army and served from January 8, 1979 until December 16, 1982 and earned the Army Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal (2d Award), Overseas Service Ribbon and Rifle Sharpshooter. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserve from October 22, 1985 until October 21, 1988. Randy was very proud of serving his country and loved talking about the countries he seen and all of his experiences in the service. Randy worked for Lake City Maintenance, Woodland Cabinetry, and was a farm hand for various farmers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and wood working projects. He enjoyed watching Nova and the History channel on T.V. Randy could fix almost anything and enjoyed helping others fix things. He passed away on June 18, 2016 in New Effington, SD.
Randy is survived by his daughters, Misty Maakestad of Britton, SD and Jessica and (Luke) Bestgen of Whitewood, SD; grandchildren, Jenna and Jordan Andrews, Sarah, Rebecca, Levi, and Kenzie Bestgen; Sister Judy and (Ronald) Richards of Sisseton, SD; brother Richard and (Debbie) Birdsall of Watson, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Carl Schuppan, and one sister Penny "Denise" Bucklin.
