Funeral Service for Payton Norris St. John Sr., 50, of Veblen, South Dakota will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota with Rev. Fr. Tony Dummer officiating. Pallbearers will be Arthur Irish Jr., Randy White, Lonnie Runnels, Wade DuMarce, Sheldon Brown, Donovan Keeble, Todd St. John, Dale Frenier, Cyril Abraham, and Harlan DuMarce. Honorary Pallbearers will be Payton St. John Jr., Charles St. John, Thomas St. John, Michael St. John, Prescott St. John, Cody St. John, Tyrell Keeble, Jameson Brown, Rock St. John, and Rose St. John. The Drum Groups will be Eyabay and the Cook Boys. Interment will be in the St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery, Veblen, South Dakota. There will be all night wakes starting at 7:30 P.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 and Sunday, November 6, 2011 at St. Catherine's Hall, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of arrangements.
Payton Norris St. John Sr. was born on January 19, 1961 at Freemont, CA to Sylvester and Catherine (Keeble) St. John Sr. He grew up and attended school in California, and also in Veblen and Sisseton, SD. Payton worked at Dakota Magic Casino in the Maintenance Dept. Payton was also a very good automotive mechanic. He liked to spend time with family and friends, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Payton liked to watch football, doing handiwork around the house, and fixing his families autos. He passed away on November 1, 2011 from injuries in an automobile accident.
Payton is survived by five sons, Payton St. John Jr. of Ft. Washkie, WY, Charles St. John of Veblen, SD, Thomas St. John of Neopit, WI, Michael St. John of Veblen, SD, and Prescott St. John of Sisseton, SD, three step-daughters, Rhiannon Stringer of Ft. Hood, TX, Christina Horn and Olivia Horn of Veblen, SD, two brothers, Sylvester Steve St. John Jr., and Gordon Perry St. John of New Effington, SD, two sisters, Selva St. John-Lake of Flandreau, SD, and Cathy (Dilworth) Brown of Agency Village, SD, and eight grandchildren.
Payton was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Howard and Michael.
