Memorial Service for Paul J. Hanson, 67, of Sisseton, SD will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, Sisseton, SD with the Pastor Patrick Jenkins officiating. Organist will be Michelle Greseth and soloist will be Pat Schubert. Urn bearers will be Bobby Hanson, Gary Hanson, Pat Dady, and Keith Neumann. There will be visitation on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a time of sharing at 6:00 PM at Cahill Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in Sisseton Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of the arrangements.

Paul was born on June 5, 1951 in Sisseton, SD to David and Sylvia (Rinas) Hanson. He attended Sisseton High School and graduated in 1969. After high school, he attended one year at SDSU in Brookings. He came back to the family farm where he made his life with his wife and children. He was united in marriage to Sheryl Halseide on June 29, 1974, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD. His dad started the family dairy operation over sixty years ago and Paul continued to run it while farming with his brother Gary.

Paul had a life-long passion for flying and received his pilot's license in 1977. He started flying with a gyrocopter, but found that he loved flying tail dragger airplanes above all others. He passed his love of flying, knowledge and experience to his son, Dirk.

In his earlier years, Paul was a drummer with Lenny and the Trail Dusters and later for Countryside. In more recent years, he preferred playing his guitar and singing and on special occasions would play for family and friends. Paul loved driving his team of mules and the many events with the "Teamsters". He was a member of the Hills and Valley Riding Club for over fifty years and looked forward to being "Head Camp Jack" when camping at the annual Trail Ride. Paul also enjoyed spending time at the lake and those evening pontoon rides with family and friends. Mornings would often find him having coffee with the guys and evenings attending local high school sporting events. He willingly volunteered his time to the Sisseton Redman football team chain gang. Paul was very mechanically inclined and spent countless hours working in his shop on one project or another, along with others counting on him for unsolicited advice…smartest man you'll ever know.

Paul was surrounded by family and friends during his battle with lung cancer until the time of his passing on October 3 ^rd , 2018. He is survived by wife Sheryl Hanson of Sisseton, SD; son Dirk and wife Melanie Hanson, and their children Ava and Abigail of Moorhead, MN; daughter Meredith and husband Mathew Green and their children, TJ and Weston of Alexandria, MN; sisters, Marie Wheeler of Huron, SD and Julie and Keith Neumann of Willmar, MN; brother, Gary and Angie Hanson of Sisseton, SD; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, David and Sylvia Hanson; son, John; and grandson, Braden Green.
