Funeral Mass for Patrick James Nigg, 79 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Saturday, September 21,2024 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Sisseton, SD with Fr. Ken Lulf Celebrant. Organist will be Cindy Marohl and song leader will be Sandi Jaspers. Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus, Paul Stapleton, Curtis Curran. Terry Jaspers, Matt Mattson, Michael O'Malley and Dale Carlson. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of Pat's Grandchildren and all of the customers he served over the years. There will be visitation at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Prayer Service and Rosary at 7:00 P.M. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel, Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Patrick James Nigg was born as the last of four children on March 6, 1945, to Merville and Elinor (Corky) Nigg of Browns Valley, MN. Pat's childhood was split between Minnesota and Berkeley, California, with his family returning to Browns Valley when he was around nine years old. His early life was spent on the family farm, until he began working at Warren's Red Owl in Sisseton, where he eventually met his wife Lois Fonder. They were united in marriage on August 7, 1971, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Sisseton, SD, and had two children – Chad and Nicole.

Pat worked at Red Owl (and then Jack and Jill when the name changed) until it closed, in various capacities including stocking, bagging/carry outs, and later as a butcher in the meat department. Once Jack and Jill closed its doors, Pat moved on to Teals Supermarket and worked there until COVID in 2020, when his kids convinced him that he deserved to retire.

Pat had various interests over the years, including the Minnesota Twins, a good game of cards, and using his skills as an artist to draw and paint. Another interest that cannot be excluded was his love of westerns – much to his wife's dismay. After losing Lois in 2017, we would like to think that Pat watched enough westerns to make up for all of the years she held tight to the remote.

There is no doubt that everyone in town knew Pat – either through his commitment to St. Peter's Church and the Knights of Columbus, or because he likely carried out their groceries at some point. He was not much for words, but he was never short on smiles. His quiet and gentle demeaner will be missed by all, and it made his one-liners all the more hilarious because it was as though he saved up his words to make them really count. Pat passed away on September 16, 2024, at Essentia Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Pat is survived by his son Chad (Charlene) Nigg of Marshall, MN; his daughter Nicole (Kevin) Philbrick of Bedford, NH; grandchildren Caden (and fiancé Anna) Nigg; Jadzia Nigg; and Cameron and Emerson Philbrick; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, and siblings Marvel, Joan, and Mike.
