A Celebration of Life service for Oliver "Mugsy" Joseph Wanna Jr. will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Vern Donnell and Pastor Milton "Nippy" Owen officiating. There will be a Wake service on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 7:00 P.M. ~ 9:00 P.M. and an All-Night Wake service on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, starting at 7:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD. Pall Bearers will be Daniel Williams, David Williams Jr., Caleb Valadez, Dominic LaFromboise, Jacoby LaFromboise, Nathaniel Johnson, Bennett Oneroad, and Alex Wanna. Honorary Pall Bearers will be All of His Nieces, Nephews, Family & Friends and the Staff at Wilmot Care Center. Interment will be at the St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery in Veblen, SD. Cahill Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Oliver Joseph Wanna Jr was born to Oliver Wanna Sr. and Angeline (Supongi) Wanna on August 8, 1956, in Minneapolis, MN. During his elementary years, Oliver attended the Pierce School in Minneapolis, MN. He remained in the area for the rest of his schooling and also took classes at the South High School. For a while, Oliver worked for the City of Minneapolis Park and Rec. His family then moved to Sisseton, SD where he later obtained a GED. He then worked at Anderson Construction. Oliver enjoyed watching football, his favorite team being those that won the Superbowl – but mainly the KC Chiefs. He also liked to play pool and listen to the oldies. Oliver passed away on April 16, 2026, at the Wilmot Care Center in Wilmot, SD.
Oliver is survived by his children David Williams and Renae Wanna; sister Anita Wanna; grandchildren Daniel Williams, David Williams Jr., Blaine Williams, Caleb Valadez, Dominic LaFromboise, Jacoby LaFromboise, Nathaniel Johnson, Bennett Oneroad, Bonna Johnson, Rhea Johnson, Sami Johnson, Belle Johnson, Josiah Wanna, and Nina Wanna, Lainey LaFromboise and Kaliyah Williams; great-grandchildren Jasper Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Ezra Johnson, Shayla Reagan, Anna Johnson and Monlo Williams Chasing Hawk; God daughters Ruby Comes Flying and Jessica Wanna; God Son Alex Wanna; and many nieces and nephews.
Oliver is preceded in death by his parents Oliver Wanna Sr. and Angeline (Supongi) Wanna; significant other Carla Williams; son Shawn Johnson; granddaughters Madeline Renville and Paris Williams; siblings Gerald Wanna, Duane "Doc" Wanna; Eugene "Geno" Wanna, Sheila Ann Wanna, Kathy Wanna, Carmen Wanna, and Deborah Peterson.
