Noreen Joan (Stewart) Stillson, of Sisseton, SD passed away on November 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Funeral Mass for Noreen will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Sisseton, South Dakota with Fr. Ken Lulf, Celebrant. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at St. Peter's Church from 3:00-5:00 P.M. with a prayer service starting at 5:00 P.M.

Noreen Joan Stewart was born on June 21, 1932, to Allan and Nora (Stapleton) Stewart. She attended St. Peter's Parochial School and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1950. Following graduation, Noreen attended Northern State Teachers College and earned her teaching degree. Noreen taught school at Sisseton Township #1 before moving to St. Paul, MN, where she worked in the MN Taxation Department until 1955. She then returned to Sisseton to work as the Deputy to the County Superintendent of Schools. It was then that she met the love of her life, Les Stillson. They married on November 21, 1956, and they were blessed with seven children. Together they owned Stillson Oil Company until Les' passing on April 21, 2002; they shared 45 wonderful years together.

Noreen dedicated her life to raising her children, and her family was the center of her world. She was the kindest, gentlest, sweetest, loving wife and mother. Her dedication to her family was unwavering. She made the kitchen the heart of the home and welcomed anyone to the table. She was a wonderful cook and always had coffee brewing for those who stopped in to visit. She enjoyed monthly lunches with her classmates of 1950 and tea parties with her grandchildren. She also took care of many elderly, bringing meals to their doors long before Meals on Wheels began. She had a profound love for gardening and her rose bushes were legendary.

Noreen was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where she was a faithful prayer  warrior, a member of St. Francis Circle, and a religious education teacher for many years. She was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Noreen's greatest joy was her family: Greg (Sue) Stillson of Sisseton, SD; Sharon (Darrell Haaland) of Sisseton, SD; Lisa (Doug) Lauer of Lakeville, MN; John (Melissa) Stillson of Rock Rapids, IA; David (Lisa) Stillson of Sisseton, SD; Stacey (Kendall) Goetz of Rochester, MN; Mary Schuurmans of Prior Lake, MN; 16 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Les, cherished daughter, Sharon Haaland, parents Allan and Nora Stewart and all her siblings, Edward Stewart, Anita Fitz, Ellen King and spouses as well as several nieces and nephews.
