He grew up primarily in Wilmot, South Dakota where he attended school and graduated from Wilmot High School. He loved his hometown. He met the love of his life and moved to Watertown with her where they first started their family, but they travelled home to Wilmot frequently. They eventually moved back to Wilmot to be close to both of their families. They got married on September 16th, 2022, and 7 months later found out that they were expecting a baby boy. Nickolas's proudest moments were those of being a father. He loved his family. He is the father to five children ranging in age from 5 months to 10 years old. He loved to share his hobbies and values with his kids, often taking them hunting/fishing or having them help him work in the garage or in the yard. He was a man of many self-taught skills. He believed in hard work and fixing things yourself when you could. One of his lifelong careers and hobbies was working on vehicles. He also enjoyed frisbee golf, camping and listening to music. One of his favorite things about living in Wilmot was living so close to the family farm and the house where his dad grew up. He loved God's country and spent many days out there with his beloved dogs. He always said he felt closest to God when he was out in nature. He was a member of the Wilmot Lutheran Church.
