Obituary

Mass of Christian Burial for Neil Dennis Cahill, 70 of Mobridge, SD was held on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mobridge, SD with the Fr. John Short and Deacon Daniel Moris Celebrant. Pallbearers were LeRoy Vogel, Don Tisdall, Mike Beck, Ed Schell, BJ Schaefbauer, Dale Myren, Ken Gosch, and Norman Frey. Honorary Pallbearer was Edward Bickel. Organist was Marge Mertz. Interment was held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Sisseton, SD.
Neil Dennis Cahill was born on May 12, 1939 in Sisseton, SD to Neil and Vivian (Horton) Cahill. He attended school in Sisseton, graduating from high school in 1957. He attended the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN graduating in 1961 with a degree in accounting. Neil married Sylvia Fossum on September 2, 1961. He worked for the accounting firm of Arthur Young and Company in Los Angeles for four years before starting his accounting practice in Mobridge in December 1964. Neil was the first Boy Scout from Troup 35 in Sisseton, SD to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. In college he was involved in basketball, track and ROTC. After moving to Mobridge, Neil was appointed by Governor Farrar to the SD Highway Commission in 1969 at the age of 29; he was a Walworth County Commissioner; served on the Mobridge Rodeo Committee; and was active in the Republican Party among other affiliations. Neil passed away on July 4, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center, Selby, SD.
Neil is survived by his daughter Kari (Mitchell) Lanz of Maple Grove, MN, his son Jack (Christine) Cahill of Plymouth, MN, and four grandchildren, Erin and Mike Lanz and Carter and Calvin Cahill.
Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Neil and Vivian Cahill, and his brother Thomas H. Cahill
