Celebration of Life Service for Nancy M. Wallenstein, 62 of Sisseton, SD will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Community Center, Agency Village, SD with John Cloud III and Danny Seaboy Sr. officiating. Pianist will be Ember Dady. Drum Group will be Jim Genia and the Boys. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Long Hollow Presbyterian Cemetery, Long Hollow. The Cahill Funeral Chapel located in Sisseton, S.D is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Nancy Marie Genia was born on May 21, 1957 in Sisseton SD to Howard D. Genia and Patsy D. Cloud. Nancy attended South Manor Grade School in Manorville, NY and high school in Center Moriches, East Port High Schools and then Sisseton High School. They resided in Sisseton, SD. Nancy attended Sisseton Wahpeton Community College and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Chemical Dependency and worked for Dakota Pride. Richard and Nancy were united in marriage on November 28, 1986. She attended college at Morris, Minnesota for a year before attending Huron College where she earned a BS Degree in Teaching. She had her teaching license from the State of South Dakota and taught high school English at Tiospa Zina. Nancy served on the Tribal Council in the late 1980's. In 1992 they moved to Connecticut for four years. They then returned to Sisseton where she resided until her death. She worked for Dakota Magic Casino until retiring due to health reason. Nancy was a member of Long Hollow Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She made sure their birthdays were observed and most holidays with family gatherings. Nancy was an avid reader all her life. She loved to read series of books this was her favorite past time. Her last series was the Game of Thrones that she read five times. She also enjoyed gardening and involving the grandchildren in the process of planting and attending to the garden. She also enjoyed sewing, beading and baking. Nancy passed away on November 3, 2019 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Nancy is survived by her husband Richard Wallenstein of Sisseton, SD; daughters, Rebecca Genia of Sisseton, SD, Rachel (Daniel H.) MacAvoy of Hankinson, ND; sons Richard Perry (Katrina) Wallenstein of Browns Valley, MN and Ron D. Wallenstein of Sisseton, SD; twenty grandchildren; ten brothers and sisters, James (Kathy) Genia of Veblen, SD, Peggy (Joe) Lopez of Ledyard, CT, Howard (Jacquelyn) Genia Jr. of Ledyard, CT, Joseph (Joyce) Genia of Muskegon, MI, Judy Hicks of Fallon, NV, David Genia of Sisseton, SD, Melvin (Gay) Genia of Cocoa Beach, FL, Michael (Sherry) Genia of Sisseton, SD, Mary (Mike) Goette of Browns Valley, SD; Mark (Moshal) Genia of Sisseton, SD.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Patsy Genia; maternal grandparents John Cloud I and Bessie Cloud; paternal grandparents, James and Clara (Shananquet) Genia.
